This is what happens when you take your eye off the ball.

I saw a rut, and rock, and I was going too dang fast for conditions. Hit the brakes, hit the rock, hit the rut, hit the ground. Ouch.

Target fixation. Never stare at what you don't want to hit.
Glad it wasn't worse for you. Now the big question. ...
    How's the bike?

The bike came through much better than I did. Some additional scratches on the skewer lever. It happened 5 or 6 miles up B* and I discovered no issues riding down. Other than my knee and shin sting like...like....like someone took the skin off. :bang:

And I have blood on my shoe.

@Runs with Scissors Blackstar sounds kinda treacherous now.....maybe it would be safer on the DH bike.

I think everyone has crashed at some point on B*. Welcome to the club.

Nope... Never crashed on Blackstar. I slid unexpectedly into a 3 foot pile of silty dirt once at 25 mph, ingesting a 1/2 pound or so. But that really wasn't a crash. More like a taste testing. :whistling:

Glad you're ok, @Runs with Scissors...

I swear I've gone way faster down B* than today, never an issue. Sometimes it's just your turn. Accept it. o_O

I left some skin on the first bridge in Shady Canyon Bike tail yesterday....... To my defense, It hard to see the ice at night (before hitting the wooden planks).
I managed to brake a spoke, burp/rip my tire, and dent my ego. Additionally I have some "strawberries" on my knee hip and elbow.

It happened around 5:50am. I was back in the car by 6am. Great way to start a day!

My dermatologist had an intern in one day while I had a check up.
"What's going on with his lower legs?"
    "He's a mountain biker."
I get the stern look while they scribble on their notepads.

My dermatologist is a hiker. She said that the mountain bikers whizz by dinging their bells and she thinks they are crazy for going so fast... Seeing as how I had just had my shoulder raised up 5" with some braided kevlar/poly marlin leader I could only nod my head in agreement. She knows me well.

Oh wait...It did leave a mark

Glad it wasn't worse... Me and most my buddies have all taken solid dirt inspections on fire roads...Mine was on Harding bout 1/2 Mile from bottom, banged and scratched and bleeding.

Those fore roads are dangerous; I try to stick to steep technical ST.

I broke my collarbone on BS, about a mile from the bottom. It was fun getting back to the truck, especially loading up the bike. Dappled sunlight under oaks and across rocks and roots got me. Collarbone looks like a jack-knifed big rig now.

IMO the issue is not the minor scrapes and bruises we all have except is part of the sport, it the fact that as I get older it takes so long for things to heal.

I considered myself lucky because when I inspected my injuries from last week and I didn't see a drop of blood anywhere. An hour later my hip swelled up, and the minor scrapes are getting infected despite all my efforts. I did ride my bike on Saturday, but I was too cautious to truly enjoy the ride.

Bottom line - I'm not an Enduro rider because I can't handle the injuries at this point of my life.

I have to admit - it hurts much worse today than it did Friday. Looks worse too, but no infection.

Bandage removal may require a liquid assist.

    Sounds normal.

Letting stuff dry as much possible is my MO. My friend got some epic roadrash years ago, which became infected when he followed a doctor's advice to keep a salve on it. I cover wounds before showering, too. YMMV...

Totally! I broke my hand on April 2nd last year. Surgery on April 6th and I was out an entire 4 weeks before riding aggressive mtb again! :whistling:

OK, OK, I got lucky. My dislocated shoulder in 2014 took 2 1/2 months of painful PT to regain motion.

As I have aged, it's not really the scrapes or even injuries that I notice taking longer to heal - it's recovery from strenuous activity. A couple of good rides in a row, and I am cooked for a couple of days. YMMV. We all have different genetics.
