Looks like one more week of the triple digets and normal temperatures after.
If they are not lying again. . . .

On the other hand, I did find someone up here that rides at night and early mornings. I think he's related to the @DangerDirtyD .

OMG I thought you said Bolsa Chica (Huntington Beach) had 84° water!

Where is Boca Chica? Central America (Costa Rica)?

Bolsa Chica water temps are mid 60s today.

Boca Chica: Girl mouth. Or if you want a literal translation, mouth girl. It's what happens when people make up names. It's in Texas. He did mention not being able to get to the gulf. Of Mexico, one presumed.

There is no Bolsa Chica. It's Tin Can Beach, for ever and ever, amen. :p:rolleyes:

Newport Bay today. SUP. No real wind predicted.
10 am 98-100 degrees at PCH Bridge. In NB for godsakes.
We paddled up North and by 11:30 ish the wind came in. Brought clouds and the temps dropped to the high 80's. All of this happened with a 20mph South wind.
Basically in our face for most of our last three miles.
    It got a bit nautical.

Homeowners insurance should take care of it, no?

We live in an old ass rental with no insulation and single pane windows. I set the thermostat to 78° then I have to chase it all day. It was 107° today so the A/C was only able to keep it at 86° indoors. I can't imagine it being any hotter than that inside and fans can only do so much.

If it’s the capacitor in the compressor motor, it’s a $10 diy tomorrow. If it’s not that, you’ll have it fixed in time for the next heat wave.

Seriously curious how hot the house will be inside when we pull in tomorrow around 9am. Air has been off and the windows closed. But at least it’s not like here in Texas where if the ac fails your house just turns to mold and returns to the soil.

Aaaaand it's back on! I pulled off the service panel, pushed some wires, flipped the breaker a few times, walked away to look up motel rooms, and it kicked on. Obviously something is wrong, but for the moment nobody is crying!

@tick Does the capacitor fail incrementally, or does it just stop?

I’m trying to remember how it failed for me. If you aren’t getting that loud click outside but the fan can still blow, it’s a good place to start. If it failed while the compressor was running than that’s not it. The capacitor is there to start the motor.

That sounds about right... compressor and fan won't kick on, but inside blower is still moving air. Pretty good video, but visual check shows that mine is not popped up like in the video.

Did you check the battery in the thermostat ? Mine is old and uses a 9v battery. That was the problem with mine.

I didn't, but it seems fine... thermostat lights up and read out works. On/off, fan speed settings all work.

Drove down from Lone Pine yesterday. Somehow it is cooler everywhere down the 395 corridor than in Rancho Cucamonga (104 vs 110).

No AC in the van. If it wasn't for the AC in my GF's apartment, I would be living without completely (even at work).

Started riding B* with our lights at 5:30 yesterday and was able to get in some miles before 8:00 or so when my wife turned into a pumpkin. Don't know why it took so long to initiate this practice.

I lived a stones throw away from the sand on 19th street in Newport for the better part of a decade and will say that when it was “hot” there, especially with high humidity, it felt wayyyyyy hotter than the temperature gauge led you to believe. That extra moisture definitely has an impact on how hot it feels.

The peninsula is also all sand/concrete sticking out like a giant dock in the water so probably amplifies the radiant heat. I just remember thinking “this 85 feels more like 105.”

Stay away from Long Beach on Thursday. According to the New York Times it's going to be 119 degrees. (below is today through next Monday).

    upload_2022-9-6_19-3-51.png

Per the Nasty Weather Service it'll be 98 in North Long Beach, hottest part of the city.

You can't make this stuff up.

It's 4:43 pm, and my air conditioner is NOT running.

    It's a miracle, I tell ya.

Well, that and it's not as hot as they said it would be. Quite a few raindrops in the last couple hours too. If it's not California* in the morning I may go ride my bike.

*California - y'know, it never rains but it...

I stood outside in the steady rain for 3 hours watching football this evening. I was soaked. Our team wasn't good.

    Happy for the rain!

    EDIT:
