A Floridian would be in a parka, gloves, winter hat, and scarf in a SoCal winter. This weather is freezing to them. Our rules when the kids were little: Under 80 meant long sleeves and pants. Under 70 meant jackets and gloves.

Working in the schools, if it hit the 50s, we went into "emergency procedures" and the kids were allowed to wear winter gear. You could always spot the recently arrived NYers walking around half naked looking at everyone else like they were nuts. :Roflmao

When @mountaingirl sara was talking about Florida recently, I pulled up the weather at our old house. It was midnight there, and a balmy 85 with 97% humidity. :gag:

I mean, I don't want to talk Sh!t, but these recent cold mornings this week are BS. I am very close to my annual "looking up how to light the gas heater." I forget every year.

Not too many years ago, I was in San Diego for a couple of days when is was in the very low 30's. Coastal SoCal is not immune to ridiculous cold.

My first open water scuba dive was in colder air and water than that... No gloves. :p

    Now I'd die...

One of the few times I have been to Florida was in January to go on a cruise. This was back when I was a very active runner so I went for a run before we left. It was about 7 am and I could not believe how insanely cold it was! I swear it was in the 20's!

Interesting, my GPS says I did ZERO elevation gain in an 8 mile run :Roflmao

My first winter after getting stationed in San Diego we had a crazy cold snap. I remember ice everywhere, and I was commuting by motorcycle. I bought my first heated grips that week (I just ordered a pair for my new motorcycle too)

Hint - you were not in water colder than low 30s. In most places on earth, that's when water transforms into a solid substance.

OTOH - Maybe it was Lake Erie, and it was slush.

We had a few of those days in the years we lived there... I can say for a fact that a CD can be used an an ice scraper.

I was 75 miles from either coast, and 61 feet above sea level.

Water does not always freeze at 32... That was the middle school science version. :p Lake Erie would have been warmer, but was alas, too rough that day. No diving in 8 foot waves and zero visibility. My first dive was in an old mineral laden quarry, and at 50 feet down on the first platform, the thermometers registered upper 20s. Not sure what was in the quarry...

I, having a sun aversion, ride twixt dawn and 10 am or so and this being socal don't have much issue with temps. This morning though, the bugaboo is thick fog. Waiting for it to clear a bit before striking out. Monday, looks like the wetter version of my moisture issue.

If this thread proves anything, it’s that!

90% today in Truckee but on the warm side with snow level dropping to 7’ later. Wind gusts over the ridges up to 100 mph. Bring on the water!!!

Frozen Lake Erie... My back yard. 13 mile walk to Canada... Facing Toledo about 250 miles away by water. :D

I have a picture somewhere - I'd have to scan it in when I find it - of the carrier flight deck covered in snow. Newport News, VA ca January 1983 That was trippy. And slick, no matter how much non-skid was applied.

Surfing the catapult track (think grease on a steel surface + 25 knot wind) was also something stupid, but so much fun.

I haven't seen rain like this in a long time. Consistent all day. Truckee is due to get a handful of inches of snow accum due to the warm-ish temperatures; up higher it looks different.

https://opensnow.com/dailysnow/tahoe?page=1 is what the plowers use.

I hope it is entirely snow up there above 5000'. That much rain would be devastating.

I’m being selfish and hoping for moisture but minimal snow above 9,000’ in SoCal in the next 2 weeks.

We did a few helo flight ops in the snow, but the snow was pretty mild. Just enough you wanted to use caution when dragging a JP5 hose under the spinning rotors on a rocking ship, but not so much that I felt nervous.
