The Fire Thread

Yeah, not too bad. But all the pieces fell out of place...

 

I was running out in Ladera today, saw lots of smoke.
From my view looked like down near Pendleton.
Hope it's not bad and gets contained soon.

 

It’s at the edge of San Mateo canyon wilderness, on the ridge near the south end of tenaja trail. I hope it doesn’t burn homes in La Cresta and I hope it doesn’t burn down into San Mateo canyon, the most beautiful and pristine canyon in the Santa Ana’s.

 

Caldor Fire SW of Tahoe: Critical 48 hours of red flag weather begins now. Evac warnings include the full SW basin to the lake shore (city of South Lake Tahoe included). Also Desolation Wilderness. Fire is at the edge of Myers just S of SLT. Tense times on the south shore and south through Kirkwood.

Scary and sad.

 

The wind causing the fire problems down there has cleaned up the air around the N shore. I’d take another week of smoke to help the fight down there.

Kirkwood is probably toast today. Somebody at MTBR posted links for the webcams at Sierra at Tahoe. With the expected wind the next couple days, I don't expect either resort to make it out of this dire predicament.

 

Sorry Mike for all those affected in the Tahoe area. Words don’t express. So many people with so many livelihoods torn up.

 

SLT is one huge traffic snarl with the evac order given for the city east to stateline this AM.

Air is now good on north shore but a massive smoke bank is visible looking south from a high point.

Good thoughts for evacuees and their property.

 

Kirkwood turned on their snowmaking equipment to full force as an attempt to save buildings. I hope it works.

 

I read FF’s were using the lifts to get up the mountain at one of the resorts

When I hit the top of the climb on Upper Merrill, it looked really thick towards Chilao... The Santa Anas, on the other hand, were crystal clear today. As was Catalina Island...

 

Turns out there was a fire here in town just off the 118 this morning. I swear it burns every couple of days.

 

The smoke and haze from the fire in the Sequoia area. This is from this morning, it was worse yesterday. Cool effect though

Yep, it’s “drift smoke”.

The wind is supposed to shift by the end of the weekend to blow it away but it’s supposed stay like this for a few days until then.

 

Reporting from Knott's Berry Farm-adjacent - my daughter called me on her way up the 57 from the 22 that smoke was rolling westward. Wondered where the fire was.

That was it.

Smoke is overhead. Hopefully will stay there.

No ride for us tonight... AQI jumped to over 150 and I can't see the towers at Mount Wilson. We had one day... And heavy thunder going on the last 15 minutes and my phone buzzing about lightning strikes.

 

I'm not giving up yet! There's always 50 miles at the Floop...
