Interesting article regarding staying fit (and in Joe's case fast) after the big 5-0. There are several of you in the 50+ group (okay, maybe me too) that may take away a few good and simple points from J.F. For me, I see more sleep in my future; I'm pretty good about my protein intake but always looking to improve. :sneaky:

    Thanks for the link.

Maybe I'm out of it. I don't get the obsession with speed or being fast. I think staying injury free and having the most fun trumps speed every time. Staying fit? Sure, makes it more fun. No mystery how to do that. Each to his own...

Good article... And I hope I can still go like that at his age.

I don't worry about being or getting faster, but the tips were pretty accurate... get enough sleep, eat protein, workout, and pump some iron. I'm still trying to figure out how to work that last one in there. I spent my childhood splitting firewood all spring and summer, and could bench over 300 in high school. Now, I have the upper body strength of a 10 year old girl. :Roflmao

I'm in a hurry to not get old.

I am now justifying expensive purchases by saying "I only have a few years left to really enjoy this..." F***K!!!

Yes, to each thier own. More a lifestyle than an obsession. I think the article is just saying you will slow down much slower than the adverage person. Look around at the elderly people out there see how slow they move, that is going to happen at some point we know, fast twitch muscle helps with everyday living for keeping a person relativley injury free, it's up to each individuals mind set wheather or not all of the work is translated to fun?I think my goal when I am really up there if possible, if I do fall down , is to be able to get up.

I plan to still be riding whatever I can ride until I keel over from either exhaustion or achievement of ambient temperature. It's totally doable.

I jog five times a day, with each jogging session being only .6 miles or occasionally 1.2 miles. Sometimes I sprint for a short time, but after reading this article I see that short bursts of sprinting is something I should do more often. Thanks for the link.

I did a similar regime + some weights a few years ago. Lost 15 pounds in 6weeks, got my 1.5 mile run down to 12.5 minutes and could do 45 situps and pushups in separate 3 minute windows. I think I'm going to try it again this winter.
