Bump. I promise I will spray my pads with alcohol prior to ride day. I may not even wear pads depending on where the ride is.

Thanks Redman! My wife caged Wolfie and lets him out only on Halloween or when the kids are misbehaving and need to be frightened into compliance.

@DangerDirtyD looks like I'm in for these shenanigans. I'll bring the single speed so you have a chance of keeping up on the downhill :whistling::D

Wonder if my lights even hold a charge anymore. Guess I better check!

    BUMP!

@Lost Kiwi and @Smeegies and possibly @GnastyGnate will rendezvous with me for a lap (or two) at the Luge Tuesday afternoon. Looking like 6pm. Who else wants to chase Simon down the Luge?

You had me cross the Modjeska Grade on the way up Harding TT, and now you care about the extra climb? Additional climbing is good for the legs.

If the first run down is in the light, the afternoon glare is going to make lap 1 more difficult than the night shift.

Not worried about you fella! Just an option for people that want to bail after 1 lap. I'll be waving goodbye to them at that corner, I'm not riding back to mine between laps, flag that!

Have fun. I wish you guys were starting earlier, but I don't even drive at the time of day it would require for me to get there by 6.

I will say, trying to keep up with @Lost Kiwi down the Luge sounds like a good way to get hurt ... if not physically, then ego. :Roflmao I look forward to the Stravas.

Jokes. Based on what I have seen since following him on Strava, I am expecting about 3.15.

Dio must have walked down to go that slow!
I've never been down the Luge in the dark and this is literally my 3rd time riding at night, if it was day time I'd be pretty confident where I'll be time wise. This is a whole new kettle of fish for me
I think I'd be very happy with a 3.15 in the dark

I have always wanted to climb the Luge at sunset and drop it at night. That is my favourite time on Space mountain. Looking down below you and seeing the lights of a quaint little village.

Isn’t that becoming popular with the e-bike crowd?

I know the KOM holder encountered one when he was on a sub 3 minute pace… o_O And that was a couple years ago. They had words.

I hope not. As many times as I have dropped the Luge, I have only ever encountered uphill riders once (Moto) and hikers maybe three times. EBikers might get a forearm smash for threatening my life.

At the time Kioti wrote this, there were 57 uphill Strava entries... A couple were forum members. (89 total entries now, and 2 in February)

If the Luge gives you the heebie-jeebies, come on up to the Gabes. All of our trails are mellow rolling single tracks through the forest. More like bike paths, really.

Fun ride! Dio never fails to disappoint. This time he'd obviously gone to great lengths to try and optimize himself aerodynamically. This new beardless wonder was still true to form.... late, so it was well and truly dark by the time we made it to the flag for our first run down. I need some glasses for riding at night, with my lights on full brightness it felt like I was riding through a fog or dust cloud and my eyes were not liking it one bit.
Dio's buddy Chris hadn't been on a bike for some time but we managed to convince / pressure him into trying a second lap cos he could always bail out and come back down at any point. Whenever he thought about turning round of course we wished him luck by himself with the lions etc so he'd soldier on :sneaky:. He made it round the second time but I think he'll be suffering for it today. Very cool to be up there at night seeing the OC lights down below and also watching our own lights descend down the Luge. No pbs were ever in danger of being broken and I don't think I've ever done 2 slower laps up there but that was never the point so who cares!

Good times with good people

Don't do it at night then, its even worse. Hard to describe but the lights made me lose all sense of depth and I really struggled to see and stay on the line. Ended up in all sorts of weird places , I nearly crashed coming up from the bottom, lost all sense of where I was and ended up halfway up the bank on the right on the climb out.

You get more used to riding at night.....by riding at night.

I'm not much slower at night than during the day.

My first half dozen or so Luge rides were at night. When I finally rode it in the day, I was a bit surprised by all the exposure - didn't see it at night.
