    Hello

New to forum, basically beginner in MTB

Live in Tustin, have a Kona Mahuna 29er hardtail, most extreme ive ridden is peters canyon consistently but have done whiting ranch 1 time (with full regret due to having less than 10 rides under my belt at that time) and Laguna a few times.

Looking for people to ride with/learn from. My weakpoints are breaking the mental barrier on turns that dont have any sort of burm without slamming the breaks to an almost complete stop before I get to it.

    Soooo uhhhhhhhh ya. Hi!

Welcome @michael schroeder . You have found a great bunch of people to ride with or talk about riding with.

As for turns without berms - sounds like self-preservation to me. Flat turns with loose dirt on top of hardpack can be almost skating-rink slick. That said, there are a few masters here who could show you some tricks to making it mo' funner for ya.

    Welcome!

You should always come to a complete stop before every corner. It’s safer that way. :)

    Thanks for the welcoming!

Is there somewhere on this site that shows group rides based on certain levels? Or is that more for the individual to setup?

    I gots some bikes.
Usually when someone posts a ride, he or she will say what type of ride, what pace, skill level, etc...

I would peruse the last few pages of the "I rode my bike today" thread and check out some of the stuff that people ride on a consistent basis. Then reach out... A lot of the posts in that thread are in the OC, so there won't be any shortage of local stuff for you.

Good Q (suggestion)! Short answer: no. But each Trailhead invitation includes difficulty info.

It’s not like there are tons and tons of rides to weed through, so it’s worked well enough up to now. If curious about an aspect of a ride, just ask. Everybody is cool with noobs and we all were there before.

    Welcome @michael schroeder

I'm in Orange, have no trouble with fast turns without berms.....but a lot of my rides are not beginner friendly.

Brake earlier, and lean more in the turn....keep off the brakes. Could also be bike setup.

Feel free to ask questions.....lots of super knowledgeable riders here.
