I didn't want to say too much because, well, it's hard to go through again. The dog we adopted a month or so ago was such a cool dog. In the ten days we had him he followed me around and cuddled and slept with us all the time. He was my buddy. Then one day he snapped, literally. and bit me a couple times, and was vicious. We were stunned, Golden Retrievers don't do this. We doubted we could ever trust him around kids or other people. We called the rescue and they said they would pick him up later that day. Something wrong with him, either treated badly when younger or brain issue or something. 99% of the time he was a sweetheart, loving golden. I guess you roll the dice on most any dog older than a young pup. Our last dog we adopted at 4 months old and no problem. Well, it's not very likely to find that young of a dog again at a rescue.... so we are going another route in the near future, unfortunately not going to be a rescue. Never thought I'd say that but just can't go through it again right now.

Very sorry to hear that, but I can relate. We had a very similar experience about 18 years ago... I remember the time, because our 20 year old was a 2 year old toddler. We adopted a 1 year old yellow lab, who was a sweetheart. We were changing the baby about a month after the adoption, and he went for Drew's face when he was on the ground. No provocation, and out of the blue... Just walked in the room, snapped, snarled, and lunged at the baby. We've always had dogs... Never seen anything like that and haven't since. Nothing you can do in that case.

I had to put my good buddy to sleep just a week ago. One day I went to grab her and she bit me three times but not seriously. I found out soon after she had cancer and it took over in days. She must have been in some serious pain and I happened to find out the hard way. You never know what is going on with them. It sure is hard losing your best friend.

Dogs do three things well, eat, poop and love. Luckily the last one is what they do most.

Dammmit... I avoid this thread 'cuz it's really sad. And here's another.

@Racer X I am truly sad for your loss. I love this little thought/prayer "May I be the man that my dog thinks I am..."

Friday was a whirlwind... My wife and I had a sushi lunch at the Mission Viejo Lake. Next thing I know, we're at the Irvine Animal Shelter and I'm holding a puppy named Ellie, who was estimated to be born on the day that we had to put our Ellie to sleep. Which, coincidentally, is also the anniversary of my father's passing- the same year we adopted our Ellie. Talk about a rush of unprocessed emotions. I kept the sunglasses on the whole time.

Anyway... Long story short. The wife took our yellow lab to meet the puppy yesterday while I was riding in Wrightwood. With no signal in the Jackson Lake area, I had to wait until we drove into Wrightwood proper on the way home to see how it went...

It went well and the new addition came home... Her ears are crinkled, because of the flea infestation she had when she was found running the streets in Riverside.

@knucklebuster, bro I’m sorry about the details behind your redirection. Hang tough like you do, my friend. It’ll happen when it’s right

Crash and Bernie, wow. I hadn’t spent much time around an active bonded pair. Hourly cage matches testing the integrity of the house!!! You know what’s the best? That these two will never again be in separate cages. Together forever :inlove::inlove: All four of us!

We got ourselves a bonded pair as well! I met these two at a friend's house (she does cat rescue/fostering) and we adopted them last weekend. They're litter mates (brother and sister) and were too cute together to separate. Domestic short hairs and possibly tuxedo cats, if the tuxedos were painted by Picasso.. Playful warriors/lovable destroyers/consummate entertainers!:):inlove:

Anyone giving their dog Vetoryl capsules? We were giving them to Buddy for cushings disease but his symptoms have gone away so now we have about $100 in 30mg and 60mg capsules. Let me know if interested, otherwise I'll toss them at the next disposal event.

We had a great male cat in our lives for just over 10 years until he passed from a stomach problem. Still sad to talk about 2 years later. :(

Here he is the day we brought him home - we couldn't believe the pet shop gave him to us for free because he wasn't a kitten any more!

Got this guy, Jackson, a couple weeks ago, he's now 10.5 weeks old. Terrible twos (in months) I would say. He is a joy, a joker, a buddy, but also a terror at times. Wife and I said we wouldn't get a young pup again, but here we are....

And just when you think you're past it, the veterinarian's assistant hands you a plaster cast of your pet's paw print...

It's a nice gift, but damn that was a shock.

Always take lots of videos and photos of your pets. It really helps when they are gone and you get to see their crazy antics and be able to laugh and smile.

I wish I had taken more but I'm thankful to have any.

I have video of Ellie chewing sunflower seeds. She put them in her front teeth, cracked the shell, ate the seed and spit out the husk. Every time... o_O:eek::confused: All she needs is a cup to spit them in and she's good for an Angels game.

How the heck does a dog know to do that? My yellow lab was not quite so intuitive when we tried it with her.
