The Men's road race today is intense. So many crashes, such a dangerous course. I can't believe the planners couldn't have found a safer climb/descent to make a course out of.

Bam, bam, bam... hard crashed taking out big names. All the way up to final descent where two of the three riders in the breakaway went down.
Beautiful roads though, but maybe not made to be going that fast on. And good coverage that they let play out w/out a commercial every 30 seconds like the other sports. Soccer is the only one I really enjoy watching as it's commercial free.
When is the women's road race?

Thanks @pperrelle! We'll catch it! I suppose I could have actually clicked on the link by OP... d'oh!

Looking forward to the men's and women's XC races next week.
The kids are fully onboard Team Emily (can't blame 'em)!

Crash was horrible. She was moving on the descent with the wet roads. Bummer that Abbott couldn't hang on for a few hundred meters more. But she's a climber, not a sprinter. I thought Guanier would have a better showing.

Thanks for the info on that crash. It was awful. Announcers weren't very helpful updating the extent of her injuries. Exciting finish though, but our whole house was really rooting for Abbott. Bummer

Watched the beginning and the end of women's cycling. That crash... hope she is OK. Thought USA was going to pull off the win with a 39 second lead with 4 miles to go. Dang.

Happened to see it on TV while at a restaurant...someone changed the channel with 1.6 km to go. There was almost a homicide.

Great excitement in today's race. I wonder if my neighbors wonder what I was doing when I was yelling "SHUT UP LEGS" at the sprint finish. I wonder how the race would have ended if Abbott had the Dutch rider who crashed to work with into the finish. Bet she would have metaled, because those 3 would not have caught a pair sharing the pace.

That course was no joke. Tough features. High penalty for crashing in the rocks. Slippery climbs. Steep chutes. Drop offs - all that while riding in your skinsuit with no pads on spindly little bikes with minimal tread - bikes ill suited for the tech, but fast on the climbs and straights.

The guys with full suspension are certainly climbing the chunky bits easier, and look far more confident on the techy downs, but that's to be expected.

Thanks J for posting this up this morning!
