Just curious if there are any big ride plans to start off the 2020 year. I have seen that there has typically in the past been pretty good group rides on New Years day. Are there any planned tbis coming year or is it all dependent on the wonderful weather SoCal has been receiving?

I like the sound of this. Subscribed.

Unfortunately, I have no idea where might be cool. If there weather predictions are accurate all the trails I know and ride are going to be covered in snow or crap. I dont kniw anything in the OC or Inland Empire area.

Normally try to ride Chilao on NYD but they got over 3ft of snow up there right now.
Might be a good time for a Westside adventure.

Not sure what Westside means exactly but maybe. something in the Santa Monicas would be cool?

Santa Monicas are likely a mess due to the clay content.

Perhaps a front side San Gabes.

They have downsized the rain totals significantly for tonight's storm. If that's the case then by Wednesday everything should be good to go in the Santa Monicas.

Haven't been out that way in a while so I'll see if someone puts up a good route.

Backbone would be nice but there would surely be some downed trees to deal with. We could start at Kanan Tunnel and ride West. Do an out-n-back to Misha Mokwa. Then, for those superstars who want to do some serious extra credit, an out-n-back East to Corral Canyon. Total with extra credit would exceed 40 miles.

Plan B on Backbone could be an
out-n-back to Mishe Mokwa from Encinal Canyon Road. That would be just under 20 miles.

I plan to do Backbone from Corral to Mishe Mokwa sometime in 2020. I would start at Encinal and go to Corral and back then over to Mishe Mokwa and back. I don't think there are any downed trees as most of them burned up in the fire last year. Any variation of Backbone would be fun though unless some people want to get their Cheese on?

Ed as we spoke earlier about doing a big section of Backbone. Do you think it would better to start in the middle say Kanan or Topanga and go from there? Or start at Will Rogers State Park and go from there. This could be more accomodating for the OC and south folks

I know during the summer Millennial was way overgrown, unrideable. But a Cheeseboro, Malibu Creek to Backbone or some type of variation would be great

The best of Backbone is between Corral and Mishe Mokwa. Corral to Kanan is the most demanding followed by Kanan to Encinal then of course Encinal to Mishe Mokwa. I would prefer to park at Encinal and go to Corral first as it's the toughest.
That being said I don't think you can easily connect to the Topanga side and I don't know that side that well.
Millennium is actually a great option. We can add Colossus and Grasslands to get 20~ and 3000~

If the group prefers a slice of Cheese then we could do @buggravy's route that was postponed due to his injury.

Edit: Just saw @SS Barby's post on Millennium. It's been cleared and is in great shape.

From this side of the mountain s Mt Pacifico, Mt Gleason area are full of snow. Might not be rideable in Chilao.

It's the Western end of the Backbone Trail section(s) between there and Corral Canyon to the East. Bikes are not allowed beyond (to the West) Mishe Mokwa (located on Yerba Buena Road). So, we generally do an out-n-back from points East (Corral, Kanan, Encinal). I don't think that you can legally pick up the Backbone (for bikes) again until you reach Wood Canyon Trail on the Western Slope of Sycamore Canyon.

I'm in as long as Herz picks me up on the way. And, I agree, we need a few days out there.
