With all the rain I managed to finish the build. I have not ridden a Hardtail in decades, gonna be fun and a challenge. Just a quick pedal in driveway felt good. I had all the parts sitting around, except a bottom bracket, derailleur, and front brake. And I didn’t want to spend big bucks on the latest and greatest carbon frame, I went with steal for $640 shipped.

    Kona Honzo ST build

    •Olive green medium frame
    •Rockshox Lyrik 150m
    •Wolftooth 1 degree angleset
    •Raceface Turbine R 50mm stem
    •Bontrager carbon bar 20mm rise
    •XT M8100 brakes
    •GX shifter and derailleur
    •E13 TRSr carbon crank 30t
    •E13 TRS 9-50 cassette
    •Raceface BB
    •Raceface AR30 wheels with DT 370 hubs
    •Tannus tire insert (rear only)
    •Conti Der Kaiser skinwall 2.4s
    •Rockshox Reverb dropper 150mm
    •WTB Pure V saddle

Made for a 140mm fork, I’m using a 150 mm plus -1degree angle set. Original HA is 66, so maybe 64 or 64.5

    Looks sick!
What crank length did you put on it? I'm looking at different frames and BB drops/heights, and trying to imagine frequency/tendency to pedal strike. My Growler has a 62.5 mm BB drop, compared to the Honzo ST's 55 mm drop. With 170 mm cranks on it, I get more pedal strikes than I like (and more than on my Altitude as well, tho that has 165 mm cranks).

I know you can't tell me whether I'd pedal strike more or less, but you could report back later whether you're pedal striking more/less than normal, and that'd give some useful info.

(For context, this matters a bit, as I would not want to put shorter cranks on a new build that I planned on making SS.)

It's actually NBD for us as well! Well, new-to-us...
SWMBO wanted a cruiser, and we found this one and brought it home.

So a longer fork will affect BB drop. Taller tires/wheels will affect BB height. Sag? Angleset? Who knows....

Sure, but I was hoping @Bluesrider could report his experiences compared to what he's used to. I imagine it would take knowing a fair amount of detail. Maybe there are too many variables?
I could also just ask the hivemind: What's a "reasonable" BB drop, what's considered "low", what's considered "high"? The frames on my short-list are the Honzo ST (BB drop = 55 mm) and the RSD Middlechild (BB drop = 40 mm).

I have a 175 crank on right now, also have concerns with to many strikes. I’ll keep ya posted regarding that after a few rides. Although at this time I plan to ride this on mellower rides without big chunk, so less chance of rock strikes

Back problems? That is something I’m concerned with, I have 7 herniated disc and that’s why I love my super plush 6” travel bikes. My hardtail rides with be selective to smoother trails.

No experience to speak of yet, just built today and no rides yet. I’m curious as well to how the ride is and how I may have to adjust riding style. As stated earlier it’s been a few decades since I’ve ridden a hardtail.

Yes, it started as a Growler 20, but I've upgraded the fork, brakes, dropper, bar, and drivetrain. I'll probably sell it. My son gets first dibs if he's interested when the time comes, but I'll post it up here before anywhere else. Probably won't be very soon though.

Originally I was in the market for a Specialized Epic comp or expert, or Santa Cruz Highball well let's just say I didn't get lucky finding either. The Specialized I did find I base model, wasn't interested. I tested out the Epic XC 100mm front and rear suspension didn't like that bike. Called Fullerton Bikes one more time to inquire about stock on a Blur, I seen nothing in there website? Owner answers the phone say they have a Large in Dark Matter S kit!! "Boom" exactly what I'm looking for as an alternative to the hardtails, Mike says it's still in box, they can put it together. I told him I would have to test ride the bike first, without committing to buy just incase it didn't feel comfortable.

I get a call next day from bike shop saying bike is built, I go there after work, see the bike in person immediately liked what I saw. Was just hoping it would be a good fit, a few adjustments and a larger bar than the 160mm handlebar it had settled for an Enve 180mm 7° rise handlebar whic was the magic touch felt comfortable, Sold!!

New to me 2022 Ibis Ripley XL frame assembly.
I've had a number of setbacks that have limited my ability to ride lately going all the way back to mid October. I think I've gotten' out a grand total of 4 times to ride during this period from then to now. Work, family, illness and most recently around mid December I injured my right knee which is slowly getting better. With work going back to a regular work schedule rather than double shifts 6-7 days a week I was working I'm now working a regular 8 -5 schedule. I have a couple of days free so here is a pic of the assembly. I really should be riding-AEADB535-6D86-422F-80EB-03AC0D12B693.jpeg

I've thought about it but I will continue to use the SC Hightower with the robust Cane Creek shock I have on it. It's a great suspension combo for all the pounding going downhill on the last day of riding.
