New Bike Day......Again

Well as would have it, I tossed a couple old bike frames away a few weeks ago when we got the tandem. This opened up a hook on the wall.

My wife has been doing some morning road rides with the girls.....she has been riding an '07 Felt F5 roadie that we converted to SS. She has no trouble keeping up.

However a couple of the other girls have been riding their CX bikes. Well, it got the wheels turning. She got bit by the bug.

So a trip down to Pure Ride Cycles to check out a bike they had. She hopped on, liked the way it felt, and how it rode. So she was sold. They swapped out the tubes for tubeless and put a women's saddle on. After a bike fit we were off.

First time in the shop....cool place, good vibe. Definitely set up well for women's cycling...which was good to see. Finally go to meet @shawndoh .

So what did she get?

Man, new bike days are rad. There should be more of them. Congrats on getting to enjoy that with your wife. And yes Pure is a fine shop. 4 guys at work all bought giants there in the past 12 months.

"Road" bikes are getting so nice lately. Every bike should be able to fit a tire that can go into the dirt if you want!

 

Its a great time to buy a modern road bike, at one time they were static in their development. But road biking is in a great spot, they are benefitting the most from mountain biking's mature standards and developments. Tubeless wheels with disc brakes and through-axles, wider-rims and the ability to fit at the minimum 37c tires.

I can't imagine buying a bike any more that doesn't fit less than a 35, and even that is what I would consider small/limiting... 42mm or nothin'!!!

 

kick ass bike. I'm definitely interested to try out some blackstar and maple springs climbs on my gravel grinder.

 

She's in for some fun times. Great bike to be "nosey" with.

 

I need a woman that likes bikes. But would that mean more or less bikes for myself?

 

@mtnbikej @horsebikerider , I've been looking at gravel grinders. Any issues or thoughts on the SRAM Apex 1 drivetrain & brakes?

I did. Wonder if they're going to roll that one out or not?

 

So far no issues with the drivetrain. The brakes squeal from time to time, but putting organic pads would probably cure that.

The only issue for me was the stock wheels. They are heavy, and the rear hub developed a bit of play. We ended up swapping the wheels out for some lighter options I had in the garage.

 

Rumor is mid November. Saw it pop up in an instagram story the other day, so thinking it will be announced shortly.

 

I like that they found a way to bring the handjob back, since it disappeared with the disc CX.

Good looking ride! Any bike that can fit a 2" tire is a positive in my book.
FYI, Thunder Burts are in my opinion the best all-round tire out there!
