It’s not a Trek, but it’s still a bicycle.
It is possible to offset the carbon cost of a bike by replacing 430 driving miles with riding miles.

 

But how many miles = xxxx

I think I am more obtuse than you are impressed. I didn’t notice your little edit to the text without the double underline and strikeout annotations. The calculations are notwithstanding the price of bike vs car vs tailwind vs gasoline. And the market rate for a ton of carbon dioxide and methane fluctuates as the global fires and flatulating Greeks flood the market with supplies.

The question you ask above is much easier to answer. I think the going rate to operate a vehicle is 57.5 cents per mile, so about 10,000 miles…ish.

There is some truth to that because I ride slowly and weak in heat and it's no fun for me. Temps will already be in the low 80s there when every gets rolling on Saturday.

Also, a month ago, I made a special work appointment with a client for this Saturday before he leaves on vacation. Yes, I could change that appointment if I had to and if we had cooler temps in the forecast, I would.
