So I've been trying to find a way to keep dirt from invading the charging port on my Samsung S9. It is no longer a snug connection, can't make Android Auto or the computer recognize it. But there's a solution for the next phone: PortPlugs. Wish I'd known about them earlier.



They have plugs for the other ports on your phone too.

You ride with your phone attached to your bike?

 

Sometimes. Rokform mount. Other times it's in my jersey pocket, still exposed to dirt.

 

I wash my phone in the sink after most rides.

 

I never have that issue and I keep mine in my pocket on every ride. I'd say it's when you mount it on your bike that is causing the dirt issue/concern. Stop doing that!

 

I had to upgrade my last two phones because the charging plugs died from overuse.
On this phone I got some cords that attach magnetically attach to an insert in the plug.
Cuts the number of times I use the plug by a few orders of magnitude.

 

Occasional lint inside the charging port has been the only issue for me. I just pick it out with a toothpick.

I thought there was a "smoking deals" type thread, but I can't find it anywhere. I immediately thought of @DangerDirtyD and his "no peeing within 200 feet of any water source". Maybe D was a Bürgermeister in another life.

 

Having grown up a swimmer, I prefer to pee directly in the water so as to dilute it as much as possible immediately.

 

D needs to have a better understanding of how nature and biology work to quickly neutralize the toxic effects of natural waste. Our true friend on planet Earth is bacteria. I say go ahead and pee withun a few feet of a creek just never directly into it.

 

I grew up a Genesee Beer drinker- made with the polluted water from the Genesee River.

We followed the same philosophy. It really couldn’t make the beer any worse…

 

With enough people concentrated in a small enough water body, the warming effect cannot be discounted.
