I'm demo'ing LT 29ers at the moment. Passing along my Intense Tracer (which may be a mistake) to my son this Fall. So far the Ripmo is leading the pack after demo'ing that and the Yeti SB130 on The Luge that 8 days.

I didn't tell my wife when I bought my new Epic.
(She also didn't tell me when she decided to repurpose 1 1/2 rooms and buy 2 sewing/embroidery machines that cost WAY more)
She came home from work and saw it on the back of my truck.
"Did you buy a new bike? What kind?"
I answered it was a MTB and the last one was 15 years ago.

    Basically end of discussion

Am I the only one bothered that the decision nodes aren’t diamonds? #flowchartnerd #occupationalhazard

My wife says she trusts all my decisions with finances, and knows i’ll always make the right choice for the family. The guilt is real, but the next bike is already bought waiting to get built. Wrists finally feeling good enough to build it, maybe tomorrow.

I rode both on The Luge on back to back Thursdays...

Not impressed with the 130 going down to be honest. The 130 was the most comfortable climbing bike I have ever ridden (as a sit & spinner) but going down, it was much firmer than I expected, even after opening up the suspension. It also didn't rail/track around faster corners which I guess I attribute to the flex that many people talk about in the rear end. I can't honestly say I felt the flex but once it was released and reviewers mentioned it, Yeti said it was designed that way. Who knows? The owner at Pro Bike Supply said the firmer ride was just a characteristic of the DPX2 shock & Switch Infinity.

The Ripmo was built up with an X2 shock vs DPx2 and had a 50mm stem on the Ripmo vs 30mm on the 130 but otherwise was the same with 2.5 tires and Fox 36 160. While the Ripmo wasn't as immediately comfortable as the 130, it didn't take long for that to go away and it felt like it was built for me. I still "sat and spun" but the Ripmo felt zippier as if it wanted to go faster and felt snappier when I actually stuff up to climb. My time to the flag was only 2 minutes faster on the Ripmo but I was less tired. Going down, the Ripmo was a lil' plusher though not as plush as I would prefer compared to my Tracer but the Ripmo railed around corners better that the 130, at least for *my* centered riding style.

Added tidbit...a friend demo'd the Yeti SB150 on Saturday and we rode at Greer so I took the 150 for a run. You could feel it was heavier than the 130 but climbed almost as smoothly but once you turn that thing down the trail, it was exponentially better than the 130 and the Ripmo. It was plush, ate up the chunk and was smoooooth around the corners. the only downside I felt on my short ride was going thru a tighter "chicane" type section where you can really tell how long the 150 is.

Too bad they had different shocks on them. The Ripmo is said to blow thru its travel a lil fast, maybe thats why it was less firm than the SB also.
    .
    Both forks had same offset?

Yes, both had the 44mm offset forks. Do you still have your Ripmo? You were obviously fast on that bike last year in Wrightwood. Pro Bike Supply demo's the SB130 if you're interested in trying it out. The owner used to ride a Ripmo but has a 130 now (with an X2 shock). He said he actually likes the Ripmo a touch better overall as well but moved on to the "next big thing" when the 130's came out.

I didn't have any issues blowing thru travel on the Ripmo in either rear shock; I rode the lesser build GX model with Performance level shocks (with the DPX2) the Saturday before up at Big Laguna. Even on that clapped out bike, I had PR's on the toughest climb and chunkiest DH sections. I couldn't believe how smoothly it scooted up Red Tail.

Thats me , ha ha! Yes, I still have the Ripmo, but can get a deal on a sb130. Too close to being the same bike to keep both?
    .
I was thinking it could replace my 120 travel bike. But the sb100 would probably be better for that.

    Thanks.

Yeah, they would be very similar. No way would I want to have both at the same time. If your deal is on a used model, tread carefully. Their quality control was less than stellar on the first run if you ask me. They originally announced that bike would fit a 2.5 tire but many people were having rubbing issues with a 2.4 DHR and were being forced to run a 2.3. Other people actually had to re-dish their wheels to get the tires to run dead center of the rear swingarm  Yeti has since changed their literature to say it runs a 2.4 tire.

I know you're not a huge guy but many people have complained about rear end flex on that SB100, especially when hammering while standing. How about that new Ripley? I don't think I've read anything negative about it yet. A few people have said it's so capable that they've sold their Ripmo's.

There's a lot to be said for the "right" amount of travel, but there's nothing quite like a whole mess of extra mm's letting you go stupid fast down serious chunk.

I have bottomed my 170mm coil fork too many times to think I am over biked. And the associating ankle pain in those same hits hints that I also bottomed the rear coil.

No, I will stick with 170mm for now.
