As I was leaving the Tucker Wildlife Center today, I passed a gentleman unloading his truck full of bottled water and toilet paper into his trailer. I thought I was back in Florida for a second...

Interesting observation about my direct co-workers: None of them drink tap water. So I guess if you only drink bottled water, you may be in a panic.

When we went through hurricane season (3 direct strikes in 6 weeks...), we were prepped with our own water sources. Five gallon jugs, bath tubs, etc... The "gotta have a bottle and TP" crowd doesn't strike me as particularly resilient.

I didn’t realize he was still around... Maybe working on another fraud conviction?

Redlands has a toxic groundwater plume, but I’m not sure the source of potable water from the City’s purveyor(s).

I'm hearing that races/events are being cancelled due to the virus.

It could end up being a "I ride alone... Yeahhhhhhh, with nobody else." kind of year or until they get this thing under control.

Lockhead dumped rocket fuel out in the wash for twenty years, so a huge perchlorate plume. It's taken many of the wells out of commission. We still have I think 40% groundwater, the rest is imported.

Anyone have global coronavirus stats from one week ago? As far as I can tell, something like 30,000 new cases showed up... while over 40,000 people recovered. Last week's death toll was somewhere around 800 people worldwide, so significantly lower than people who died from the flu. Nowhere can I find anyone reporting the number of remaining active cases - they just keep reporting the peak number of people who had it at one time or other.

One other interesting tidbit... turns out that of the people who died in China, 50% of the men were smokers.

LOL I can watch this video all day :)

Also... one of the top Google search phrases of the last week? "Symptoms of carnivorous" (sic). Even with the DOW futures rout of this morning, Walmart stock is up 1% so far today.

So I can't eat there if I have an ear infection?

LOL at all of the ignorance of people "playing doctor". Some idiot at Sharky's last night was trying to navigate the salsa bar while using new napkins every time he touched a salsa ladle. By the time he was finished, he made such a mess of the area that no one will get coronavirus, but people will be dropping left and right from gastrointestinal complaints. Perhaps he doesn't know that Sharky's offers bathrooms with sinks? Hint: you can't catch coronavirus from touching it. The risk is that you get it on your hands AND THEN rub your eyes or nose.

My favorite is the masks people are wearing. Not only are the masks unlikely/useless to filter out viruses, but every time you touch the mask, you're wiping viruses and bacteria all over it. By the fifth time you fiddle with it, you're actually increasing your risk of contagion from some virus (flu! cold!) or another.

LOL, if people are having fistfights over a mathematically insignificant virus, what is going to happen when one comes along that is as virulent as the flu and with a 30 percent or more death rate? Anarchy. Stock up on guns.

Denial? I call it (1) science and (2) statistics. But since I don't have time to teach a graduate level statistics class here, you'll have to take my word for it.

At my local CostCo they had tons of canned tuna and canned chicken... but there was a run on the canned SPAM. They had to post a sign "limit two cases per customer".

Nutrition in a 12 oz. can of SPAM:
    Calories: 1044
    Protein: 42 grams
    Carbs: 12 grams
    Fat: 90 grams
Sodium: 192% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI)
    Zinc: 42% of the RDI
    Potassium: 24% of the RDI
    Iron: 18% of the RDI

Eating processed meats has been associated with a long list of adverse health conditions. In fact, one study in 448,568 adults showed that eating processed meat was linked to a higher risk of both diabetes and coronary heart disease. Similarly, several other large studies have found that eating more processed meat may be associated with a higher risk of colorectal and stomach cancer. Plus, processed meat has been tied to a higher risk of other conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and high blood pressure.

Bottom line... I assume they were buying SPAM in order to put themselves out of their misery if they ever caught coronavirus. Nazi spies in WWII used to keep a piece of SPAM hidden in the back of their mouth, and if they were ever caught they would swallow it.

I guess all the SPAM would explain the need for all the toilet paper...
