Starting at Charlton Flats area off ACH 2 ride out to Silver Moccasin to Chilao campground then take fire road around to Mt. Hillyer trail up the wall, down through he rocks. Up to halfway point of Silver Moccasin and then return back. If time allows sunrise at the Vetter Mt. fire tower could be really cool. Then return to car.

Vetter is in the Bobcat closure... And I heard that it's badly blocked anyway. Other than that, I'm in...

 

Dang, I didn't realize Vetter was in the closure area. There were no signs from the Charlton wash area when I road it last. I guess good thing I didn't get caught. There were other people up there who had hiked. Good to know.

 

I’m likely out for this weekend. I can do a redo if anyone is interested next weekend.

 

The climb from Chilao to Mount Hillyer has similar stats as Frog Hollow…. We could test your theory.

Isn't Charlton Flat also in the fire closure zone? Charlton Flat got fried pretty good from what I recall seeing while driving past.

Well Sh!t, now I wanna go too! Considering Mikie’s impending double knee replacement, I wanna have another jaunt with The Godfather.

 

You know riding Chilao at night will be more fun then riding at Irvine Ranch.

 

F@ck it! I’m in! The company of HOoLiGaNs is way better at Chilao at midnight than the solo ride with a bunch of rando strangers at Irvine Ranch during the day.
What time is the Chilao ride? It’s easier for me to stay awake than to wake up early, so I prefer midnight, but I’ll go along with whatever the group decides.

 

Looks like the sunrise is at 6:18 so with an expected 3.5 to 4 hr ride how about a start time of 2:00 am. That should make the return back to Charlton Flats on Silver Moccasin fun with the sun providing some light.

 

I'll need to start the climb an hour before y'all if you are planning 4,ooo' of climbing on a 3.5-4 hour ride.

 

There is really only 1 long climb. It is the fire road from Chilao up to Mt Hillyer but it is a gradual climb, you'll have no problem. Part of those numbers were the climb up to Vetter Mt. which it sounds like we will not do if it is closed due to Bobcat Fire closure. The rest is just some ups and downs. Nothing real difficult. Other than the "Wall" but you've done that before.
