    The Salsa saga continues...

Salsa will gladly cover the cost of the frame, but they have no el Mariachi frames to give for a warranty replacement. Probably because the model is gone after this year. And, they have no other frames that I'd be interested in, so Booooooooo, Salsa. They most likely lost a customer for life.

I'll be using the warranty $$$ for a new Santa Cruz Highball frame, which should be here in a week or so. Black and red, set up single speed. :)

The Path is a good group of guys and gals... I'm not the most mechanically inclined, and they've helped with the original diagnosis, as well as the research and planning to get me going again... Salsa lost a customer, but the Path has kept one...

I would have been happy with a replacement el Mariachi... But I'm thinking the lighter Highball will fit the bill nicely. I'll be curious to see what you think of yours when it comes. I really thought about the green one, and that was my wife's choice... But I didn't want to look like Jason's twin when we ride together.

Going with the Carbon or Alloy? I want one of those Highballs too, but wish it had a bit slacker front end, but I might just shoe-horn in a 140mm fork and see how it plays out.

I'm getting the alloy. Nothing like the feel of aluminum. It's soulful and benign. Poignant, yet not overbearing....

Plus all my old parts will fit!

Man, we'll need to call you Mini-J at this rate. Not only going singlespeed, not only going on those crazy epics, now riding his same frame.

I was very happy with the el Mariachi, and I would have been just fine with a replacement. I'm not too thrilled with Salsa for not having any for warranty issues. In researching frames, though, there really aren't that many single speed options that keep the cost (and weight) down. My bike budget is pretty small this year, with the kid going to college this fall. The Highball brings it in pretty cost effective... And it's a more "stand-up" company, I believe.

I wanted an El Mariachi as a second bike for planned bike packing and desert touring. Since the loss of my Stumpjumper, I needed something to become my first bike and soon!

Plus all my old parts will fit!

Bummer you couldn't stay with an El Mar. Didn't know they were ending production of those. They've always been on my short-list for new frames. But the HB will be great as well.

Can I join in on the ball party? I just finished putting together my Ragley mmmbop a couple of weeks ago. It's not a 29er nor does it have balls, but it's my first hardtail in what seems like ages.
