Anyone know when the annual passed will be out?
I'd like to get one this year.

    Will the shutdown delay it?

If you have any intention of hitting a national park this year, I'd recommend getting the America the Beautiful annual pass. It's only $80, and will cover entrance fees at national parks, adventure pass requirements, and any other federal land fee access costs. It won't cover additional fees such as for campgrounds and permit costs. I have one, and use the heck out of it.

With the shutdown you probably can't get either one right now.

Adventure passes are available from local retailers as well as from the Forest service. Lots of gates are locked and services limited so I doubt anyone is out there writing tickets during the shutdown.
FWIW, I don't buy one. I don't use one. I ride all the time in the ANF and I rarely get ticketed. If I do get a ticket I just throw it away.

Forest Adventure passes for our Natl Forests can be purchased any day. You have the option of a one day pass ($5), an or annual pass($30) and you can get a Second Vehicle Annual Pass for another $5 if you buy the Annual Pass. The annual pass starts from the month it is purchased.

Like @rossage I've never used an Adventure Pass and the several "notice of noncompliance" "tickets" I received were tossed in the trash.

I got at least a dozen white notices before the Nat Park Pass covered AP fee areas, tossed them all.

That $80 Parks pass RWS mentions, whatever they call it now, is the way to go. If you arrive at a NP entrance kiosk and there’s a big line, play dumb and drive up the vendor lane and flash your pass. You’ll get a reprimand for not waiting in line like everyone else, and be waved through.

You and @rossage, and @mike are actually costing the Gov't money. The Ranger has to write a ticket. The tickets are made of paper and ink, one part recyclable and the other part a pollutant.

The monies collected go to the aide of keeping our Nat'l treasures open, clean, and functioning, like dumping the trash can full of discarded tickets you and @rossage, and @mike are contributing to.

We all pay for NFs through taxes. Anyone who wishes to donate additional payment, one targeted at only the users, rather than the public, is welcome to bend over while the NFAP program drives. Enjoy! :geek:

As much as I agree with both sides, I gave up getting passes as well. I've only received one ticket and I paid it.
I guess I just don't take anything that California does serious anymore.:oops:

Talked to the CNF Ranger out at San Juan Trail parking lot a while back.....basically said unless he see's you come out of the sh*tter, he can't issue a ticket for no Pass. Since he didn't witness you using any of the facilities.

Funny they would bother to give you a notice of non-compliance. I mean, you already know you're not complying. They don't need to tell you.

The USFS is probably the only institution I don't have an aversion to paying extra to if it helps maintain these types of places...

So that's why I'd like the pass, even if the tickets are for show...

@Runs with Scissors , I'll definitely check out the atb pass. Thanks for the suggestion

I used to have an annual pass, but I hardly ever park in the pass zones now... And the last time I tried to order one on-line, their system was down for weeks. But... there is a listing on the forest page website with brick and mortar stores that carry them. Around RSM, I know that the Trabuco General Store, Big 5, and the Silverado Market carry them.

Oh come on, @Mikie? You had faith in our Govt? We live in the grandest state of all where poor money management is concerned. You should just assume that the bad habit goes on up the ladder. Sad, but factual.

I picked up one of these in Nov from the local BLM office. They were slightly befuddled by the process as I guess it's not a common occurrence at their office!
Going into Zion NP they saw it and waved me through (twice). At Grand Canyon NP the ranger had to look it over, clip the month on it, check my ID to match... a very thorough employee there!

I had planned on using it at J-Tree over the holidays, but so much for that plan... :(
