@rossage Dude c'mon. Doc says the one area is shattered. I walked my own bike off of 5- Oaks and rode out most of the way. Took off my own elbow pads. Loaded my bike onto my roof rack and even sat stoically while the PA set the bones without numbing. Twice. Gotta give me a few HTFU points for that!

If you tease me further, I'll have to take off the cast and punch a wall, just to renew my man card!

@herzalot so sorry to hear this. Trainer time! As I spend three nights a week on the trainer, if you need some tips as to how not to go insane on a trainer, a training plan, whatevs, (or if you need an actual trainer), pm me... Or start a thread. :)

Yesterday while weighing in at the ER, I weighed 92.8 kilos on one scale and 92.5 on another. That's under 205 lbs with tennis shoes, wallet, phone, hat, sunglasses. Thats the lightest I've measured in 20 years. My goal while recovering from this injury is to weigh 225, and struggle to walk up the stairs!

OK, maybe not. I appreciate the offer of trainer and trainer tips. I hate stationary bikes, but I have access to them at work, so that's what I may have to do. That and a lot of reps on the 144 stairs down to the beach from my neighborhood (the scenery is better).

Well... I for one hope that you enjoy your new (temporary) position as the official IMTB "Armchair Quarterback and Commentary" guy. This isn't a long term gig, so don't look for a raise and benefits.

My wife has dubbed this the Mountain Bikers break. I broke the same bone in my crash at Vail Lake last year, although mine was much less severe of a break.

Heal quickly, I need my riding partner back in the saddle!

I could feel bone fragments rolling around underneath, and it was swollen to the size of a softball. Definitely knew it was not a sprain.

The forensics don't add up, so I am going to posit another theory...

    Physical Evidence:
Right front of helmet scratched and dented, visor broken
Lacerations to right side of mouth, and swollen lip, right side
    Painful bruise on right shoulder
Heavy dirt on right shoulder of jersey, No rips, NO dirt on left side of jersey or shorts
Filthy right elbow/forearm guard - no dirt on left forearm guard
Cuts, bruises and abrasions on right elbow and wrist. NO scratches on left side
Bruise, contusions on right hip and knee. NO marks on left hip. Small abrasion, no bruise on top of left knee.
Heavy dirt on right grip. NO dirt on left grip.
Handlebars at 90* from proper location, with slightly loose stem bolts after the crash.

Broken left hand, "boxer's break" compression of pinky. Broken mid palm.

How could I have broken my left hand in that manner with no marks on the left side of my body?

New theory - I broke my finger catching it on something first (a heavy branch?) CAUSING the fall to the right side, and the feeling of something failing on the front of the bike. I do not see how I could have broken my finger in the fall and have no dirt anywhere on my left side. The one thing that doesn't add up about that theory is I wasn't going fast enough for a branch to break my hand in that manner.

I now need to hike to the accident scene and investigate.

    Any other thoughts?

Catch the left finger on the ground while ripping the turn, like this vid, then it flips you over onto your right side to hit the ground with a nice Thud.
in the flip the stem turns on the fork and loosens.
The stem may have been slightly under tightened, but I don't think that was the cause.
IMO, your just too bad ass for you own good...
Check the vid for proof of theory.

    Bike's fine.

Dan, I love your overestimation of my badassery, but I was turning right, and going slow. Left hand was at the outer side of the turn.
