The pneumatic tires make all the difference in the push-bike scene. My daughter loved her Kazaam after the POS Strider with solid tires.

  15. Awesome. My 2yr old crushed the beat up strider last week. Is there a 12" minion?

  16. I'd like to get my kid one of these 14" early riders soon, but $200 arrrgh

I so wanted to get him on an Early Rider and was close to ordering the 12" Alley Runner as his first real strider bike but went with the firstBIKE due to how light it is and the reviews. If he does well on it hopefully I can get him on one of the Early Rider pedal bikes sooner than later, they are sharp looking and built with kid's sizes in mind. The firstBIKE limited edition I got is usually $200 but I got it for $130, still not cheap.

Growing up my parents always bought us "real" bikes from bike shops. When bike shopping for kids function over fashion and don't go cheap. Those cheap Wally World bikes are so heavy kids don't like them and/or don't learn proper skills.

He has already thrown a fit to have his bike with his other toys so I guess it's staying inside until it gets dirty.. I also added the lowering brackets, he is super excited. He is barely able to touch the ground while sitting on it but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on it, was originally supposed to be for his 2nd birthday.

Too cool! I was already thinking about my son-to-be-born grandson and his first bike....thanks for helping in the thought process.
Is the rear brake functional? Can he get his little paw around the lever? Does it require much hand strength? Does it really need a brake or will he just do a Flintstone stop?

Nice! My boy just moved from a Strider to a Spawn Cycles Yoji. It's been about 3 weeks and he's pedaling and braking already. We went for our first 'ride' today.

He is still a little small for the bike, his feet barely touch the ground even with the lowering kit so haven't had proper testing yet (I just push him around on it and he loves that alone).

I saw the deal and got it, it was originally supposed to be for his 2nd birthday which is not until the end of November.

Regarding the brake, it does indeed work and the lever can be adjusted. From the reviews I read many kids don't pick it up at first and just stop with their feet but after a bit many did see them learning to brake with the hand brake. It's a drum style brake and it doesn't feel too tough to pull but I don't have mini hands either. The basic versions of this bike do not have the brake so it is not necessary really, I just got a deal on the $200 version which made it around the same price as the basic version.

I will update this thread or create a new one with a longer term review after some time.

(Also, for a very first "strider" kind of bike look at the Early Rider Spherovelo..)
