Julian Death March...Aug. 25th

I thought that this race was not going to be held anymore... I would love to try it again.


You are getting this email because you have participated in the Julian Death March some time in the last several years. You may have heard that Rich Wolf has decided not to continue promoting the event, but luckily he and I came to an arrangement, and I'll be promoting the race from here on. Rich has done a great job, but I'm looking forward to putting some new energy into the race. I would also like to get some feedback from pervious partcipants like you. It would be be really helpful if you could take just a few minutes to fill out this survey to help me make the event better than ever. Thanks for your time.

Just received the email:

The Julian Death March Continues, and will be going to a once a year format. The race is scheduled for a October date in 2015. We are working out a few details, and plan to release the exact date soon!

Of course- Putting "Death March" in the title guarantees that this thread will get 0 replies, other than my own. I wonder how long that can last...

 

As much as I would like to give this one a go.....this year we have Vision Quest on October 24, so no sure both will be possible for me....at least for 2015.

 

Yeah... I can't imagine doing two rides like this so close together. I'll probably give it a try again, because I wasn't too happy about last year's performance. I took a wrong turn, and ended up doing the 50 mile version, which for me was actually 56 miles and 9,000 feet.

The Death March has some neat scenery, and some rocky "main divide" type sections, but there is also several pavement miles, and very little single track. They haven't said if they are including the Oriflamme (sp?) climb... That is an absolute beast, as is the Toll Road climb near the end. The VQ is probably more technical, with the Holy Jims and the west Horsethief stroll.

 

Received from the new promoter... It sounds like they are trying to pull it off. I hope they do... The old Death March was a great event.

Julian Death March
The Julian Death March was originally scheduled for October 17th, but we've got a scheduling conflict that we are working out. We'll release the new date as soon as possible.

 

I may end up talking myself into this one. Crusher...Death March...now all I need to do is The Most Horrible Thing Ever. Oh wait, that doesn't exist anymore.

 

I hope the date, whatever they pick, is workable for me.

Also... I can't see my entire post above on Tapatalk, but I can on the computer... Weird.

I think you'd like the Death March. It is long and brutal, but nothing too death defying. Some of the fire roads are a lot rockier than Main Divide, but that's about it.

Well pie?! Why didn't you say so!

(Rockier than MD still sounds horrible But the sand road of the Pioneertown ride was pretty horrible too)

 

Yet, you did it and survived to ride another day.

I too am curious as to what the new date will be.

 

Any updates on the date? I'm beginning to think I may have to do this if I can just figure out when...

I'm pretty conversant with Mr. Google, but he wasn't much help.

 

The last email I received said that October 17th was out due to conflicts, and they were looking at either the week before that or the week after...

I wish that they would provide something a little more concrete than "fingers crossed" at this point in time if they are still shooting for Halloween.

 

Well... What do you guys think about those apples? Do an informal death march with 8,000 feet, or give the Quick and Dirty 50 (<4,000 feet) a try?

I'm tempted to give the Death March a go... I liked riding in that area, and I won't have another excuse to get down there.

Edit: I see that the Twelve Hours of Temecula is on November 7th. I would choose the Temecula ride over a thrown together Death March.

The Death March is... Dead.

Well... We were supposed to have an update from the promoter on September 1. It's now October 4, and we've heard nothing. I think we can safely pronounce the Death March dead.

 

That's too bad. Maybe someone will resurrect it.

 

This was the somebody else trying to ressurect it.

 

Yeah...maybe someone else will try.

 

Officially dead for now.......I know most had already written it off anyway.

Guys, I'm sorry to say that it looks like it just isn't going to happen this fall. I've taken on a bit much, and I simply can't do this the way I want to do it at the moment. I do intend to get the race going again, I'll be sure to post here when I have more information.

 

That... Stinks.

 

Faust, I hope you aren't about to rack up ride cancellations like I do. I don't want any competition in that area.
