Last week I took a stolen bike report for a kid who parked his $1,500 Cannondale road bike outside of a liquor store unlocked. The kid didn't have the serial number to the bike (standard), but showed me a picture of it.

Tonight, while enjoying a cup of joe at my favorite spot I saw a dude ride the bike right by me in the parking lot. I call out to him and tell him to come back... and the rest is history.

Bike owner reunited with his bike.

Well, we can't change what they look like (and the confusion it will cause on the trail), but we can start our own grassroots effort to make them sound less like mountain bikes in conversation by calling them what they are: Electric Mopeds. Next time you see someone cruise up your local singletrack on their $10K electric moped, you can say something like "Wow, that's a pretty sweet looking moped! By the way, did you know mopeds aren't allowed on trails here?"

Yep, it has pedals and an electric motor. From now on I will refer to them as electric mopeds ... and await delivery of that EMP

 

I like to call them electric motor driven cycles, but moped rolls off the tongue a little easier.

LEOs are and should be held to a higher standard than random protesters. I thought it disconcerting that amid jest here about skipping due process, a cop takes a serious tack. Or maybe you guys were serious about beating up a guy riding a stolen bike without determining who stole it.

Ok guys, I need your help. I located an expensive and obviously stolen bike and would like to find the owner. Unfortunately, the serial number sticker on the bottom bracket was peeled off so we are going to have to figure it out the hard way.

Does anyone know anyone who is missing a carbon cannondale road bike?

I'll leave the description of the bike at that and if you do know anyone that has been a victim of a bike theft just shoot me a PM with the description and we can go from there.
