We have a herd of pronghorn that live in the open range between where I live and Chino Valley to the NE that I see on a regular basis. My sister is visiting from SoCal and wanted to see some wildlife so I took her over that way. Aside from seeing the largest pronghorn I've ever seen, I actually saw a female elk (cow) for the first time out here. To be honest, I wasn't sure I saw what aI thought I saw but then a nearby resident said she saw it as well and posted pictures. Not sure why the elk was down here all by itself. I've heard the area to the North of us has some massive trophy elk but I've never seen any so this was new to me.

I did see a cool bull snake on our ride yesterday but wasn't fast enough or impressed enough to bother taking a picture.

Saw this nice Mojave Red specimen today while on a ride. He was quite indifferent to us checking him out as it slowly slithered away.

Literally 15 yards from us! And then something or someone must have spooked as we later saw it up a tree in the neighbor’s yard.

    Great shots!

We lost a 300 pound male in Altadena the other day. Car vs. bear on New York Drive. :(

Come clean, Lubo…that’s not wildlife, just the local vagrants. :p Hope they don’t start getting demanding like the one in Meyers…

Bummed to hear of the casualty in Altadena. :(

Too smart for their own good, bears.

I wasn't sure of the variety, but Google says it's a juvenile Coopers Hawk. The tear drop pattern that will fade as he matures is the giveaway... It flew into our sliding glass door, and then landed by the pond. He let out a loud ear piercing screech, which I translated as "Fack You!" and then he took off...

This might explain the squirrel remnants I found the other day...

Fun fact. Coopers Hawks are so fast and agile that they can actually pluck hummingbirds from mid air, mid flight, except for the Black-chinned hummingbird.

A couple of encounters in the last few days.
Couple of nights ago a small hawk feeding on something right in the middle of a T of two streets in our complex. Me driving up made him fly way up into the greenbelt to finish the meal.
Today while riding along the Bosque greenbelt in the Great Park came upon a coyote feeding on what looked like a snake or lizard. Again, spotting me made the wildlife move on.
    Sorry, no pics obtained.

We have a new resident in the yard. Her name is Torfi. DF813011-BC5B-45E4-913A-704A5229DE76.jpeg

Also, my piece of Sh!t neighbor has an electric bug zapper hanging under an oak tree. It’s always on, even now when everyone at the house is sleeping. I’d like to sneak it somehow under their toilet seat.

Don’t worry about the spiders in Wrightwood when you’re out front. The falling deer legs take out all the webs…

Unless you've played golf with the real alligators... :D If I remember correctly, this was the 5th hole at Disney's Palm Course- a 400 yard par 4. He's just a little guy, but he stayed there the whole time while I hit my second shot.

And this was taken with a film camera... We need an emoji with a cane. :poop:
