Who's Riding Where???

Backbone Trail tomorrow at 7:00 AMish starting from the Kanan Tunnel trailhead. I don't really know where this is, but I'll figure it out before tomorrow.
Two options were presented by @rossage ... 20/3000 or 30/3700. I'd prefer longer, but will take anything.

 

In, for either. Kanan tunnel is basically where we started for that group ride a couple months back.

 

I think the 30 mile option is pedaling West to Mishe Mokwa and back.

But the 20 mile option from the tunnel???

20 mile version turns around at Yerba buena. Cross the road and add 4.6 miles, there and back to the Circle X parking lot, Mishe Mokwa, and you get the extra 10 (9.2) miles.

Remember, this is a drop ride. No support, no stopping, no whiners.
I recommend you wear dog tags in case something goes wrong.
Firearms not necessary, but good to have.
Last guy up the final climb gets eaten for lunch!

I'm in
Long as I can fix my hub today, first ride today on new wheels 1 block down road and hub just spins with no engagement.

 

Very light smoke smell, but infinitely better than yesterday. Not a chance I would have ridden yesterday. I wouldn't hesitate to ride in current conditions, and should theoretically be a bit better by tomorrow.

 

I believe from the Kanan trailhead out to Yerba Buena is closer to 30 miles. Staring at Encinal cyn would put it at 20 miles, Kanan to Encinal trailhead is 5 miles one way

 

Also, I had a meeting in Glendora today, so I drove through the belly of the beast. Gadzooks. For those coming from the San Gabes the AQ will be like the Napali coast in comparison.

 

I think Yerba Buena is the crossing at Little Sycamore? If there's a group conscience happening, I'd vote to go all the way to Circle X. That extra 4-5 miles being the most scenic, and seemingly least traveled.

 

Will be heading through there in a few hours. Not looking forward to it.

Final climb? Gotta get back up that steep/loose climb from the creek bed going back from Encinal to Kanan first.

Attempting to park in the trailhead paved lot or at the big pull out lot like last time?

 

Doing a Whiting loop at 4pm for about the 801st time. And I still enjoy it...surprisingly enough.

Tomorrow ill hit it with friends and luge add on for the 802nd time.

 

The Luge... I'm sure it's been ridden 100 times this week, but it's in the closure. Well... At least part of STT is.

 

Guess I should take a look and see.

Edit: And now I see an e-mail from the Path urging people to respect the closure. Motorway, Joplin, Luge, San Juan, Black Star, Maple Springs, Harding, etc...

 

I am in also. Longer is better. Kanan to Encinal and Encinal to Yerba Buena then back sounds perfect.

 

Longer would be my vote, also. But I'll let the group vibe determine that...

 

I know the area very well. If you want to meet at Kanan and 101 off the highway in the shopping center that would work. I am pretty sure @Mikie is in as well and I assume @Voodoo Tom

I was wrong about the low estimate of 100 people. The actual number of locals who have blown off the closure is much higher. And increasing by the minute!

 

just drove to the entrance on Modjeska, no sign, but then trying to put a sign on every entrance is near impossible. There was one rider heading in as I went by.

It's also just enough soot in the air, combined with the 90 deg temp, where I'll skip my afternoon ride and do some Yoga in the house instead. Really, it looks pretty bad but I don't think it's "that" bad here. But my lungs are already my weak point, so a little care might be prudent.
