That is awesome! All we need now is a way to figure out how to design a remote activated sliding chainstay. That way you could use your dropper post to move your seat up and down, use the dropper stem to adjust your handlebar position, and be able to adjust your wheelbase remotely by sliding the chainstay back or forward. :D

As dumb and archaic/industrial as it looks, the concept is good (although maybe a fork that lowers does the same thing?). Give it telescopic mechanicals in carbon fiber and add a hydraulically actuated computerized controlled remote, and make it infinetly adjustable.... ah, nevermind

Train A leaves the station at 8 am heading west at 43 mph, with three stops. Train B leaves the station at 9 am heading east at 24 mph, with 14 stops. What color is Sally's hair?

I'm told if you bend your elbows you can also get your chest closer to your stem. Elbows: infinitely adjustable, remote actuation, computer monitored, light weight! Get some at your LBS or online now!

I was thinking of having my elbows removed to save weight. I could cut a couple pounds per arm. Then, when my arms no longer bend, I will need an adjustable stem, which will only add a few ounces. Net impact = WIN!

Even with the negative intial response I think this will eventually catch on, much like the seat post did. Cars that drive themselves, bikes that ride it for you, the full Red Bull experience, just hold on!

The thing about the seat post, however, is that there were times during a ride when I would stop and manually adjust my seatpost. I have never felt the need to manually adjust my stem... with the exception of using bar ends to shift my stance forward on long climbs. But you're right... given any new piece of technology, there will be someone who will really embrace it.

I have only been mtn biking 8 years, but have become convinced that there is no technology that will make up for lack of biking skills. I think my biggest gains will come from improving my skill versus buying new technology. But there are plenty of people who are in a very different spot and this new stem might be a game changer for them.

I stay away from downhills that require the seatpost to be adjusted. I'm just wimpy that way.

Variable extension stem....that would let me figure out what is optimal without having to have 15 different lengths individually mounted and tried.:geek:

I only see this as a bike fitting product. I could never imagine this on a bike i own. But then again, I felt the same way about a dropper post...:rolleyes:o_O

I can't figure out what the reason is for a dropper stem on a mtb. o_O
But whatever, I ain't buying one anyway.

Personaly I think it is a good idea. I'm not an engineer, but I know that any moving part is going to change the geometry , but now on the fly? Really? So instead of buying a product that has a set geometry you are stuck with, now you change the geometry as needed. Maybe we are headed for a computerized bicycle that depending on the circumstance will adjust. Maybe even head angles will be changed when needed? It's all about weight distibutation and center of gravity for better contol. Never say never. We know that companys will change it to sell it. We seem to rely on computers to much for my liking. Back to the stem movement, if it were to malfuction it could prove to be catastrophic if It were to move somehow while riding when it was not supposed to. This has happened to me with the comand post and caused me to crash, now I am well aware of that scenerio! This adds on one more thing to multitask if you can handle it.
For an already skilled rider this would probably just enhance the level achieved.
