Thank you for your suggestions. :geek:

When I did the Redlands Strada Rossa, I ran WTB Nanos in 700x40 on the Arch 29er wheel. They mounted and ran well in the 50psi neighborhood... Then I immediately took them off and gave them away. They scared the hell out of me on dirt. :p

If your rim width isn't too wide you can run a 38mm, or maybe narrower, road tire. This should work great if you're not looking for KOM or speed demon status.

Or check Hutchinson 28mm road tubeless. I have them. I like them...grippy, smooth rolling, did I mention grippy?

The Schwalbe G-One 38mm would be great or G-One Bite.

    Thanks for those suggestions!

I put some small slicks on a rigid hardtail once – the street performance was unreal. But rims were super narrow back then so it worked well. My Arch rims are i26mm, so I'm not sure how small I can get away with, but I think smaller is better for the purpose. Tony, 38mm (1.2") seems tiny for my rims, but that's why I'm here asking. I'd rather not run a MTB tire at all; the ride is all pavement.

Thanks again for sharing your wisdom...

I have a Panasonic Panaracer 26x1.5 mounted on a RynoLite rim 27mm ID front wheel with no problems. The rear tire is a WTB Slickasauras 26x1.4 on a 19mm ID POS wheel but with 36 spokes.

Edit: maybe the 27mm is outside width. I’m not sure anymore.

Some of the guys who used to commute on the metrolink with me would pick up a used and/or spare wheel set with narrower rims to run streetable tires.

Enve has a wheelset that is 25mm internal and are set up to run 28mm. I would put a pair of 28-30mm tires on and call it good.

As long as you are going too small, you should be ok......

Just paid attention to this thread so hopefully I'm not too late. I've a set of Clement x'plor ush 700 x 35 tires. These are labeled as an adventure tire but roll fast and silent but still have a minimal cornering tread. I've used em from time to time on a couple mountain bikes for mixed surface commuter duties and the difference is quite noticeable compared to mountain tires. I never tried em tubeless but ran them with Slime Lite tubes and never once flatted. @mike if you're only looking for a few days use I could save you some $$ and toss em in a box and send em to you and when finished you could send em back my way.

    Here's what they look like...

Very generous of you, Tom! You are not late, as I've been kicking around this Badwater-Whitney idea for years, and the way I see it, it's a late spring/summer/early fall gig. (Road riding at night.) I'll definitely ping you with plenty of advance notice once it's on my calendar.

    You guys rock. LOL, Jason...
