I'm getting a weird residue I've never seen before too. Looks nasty. On the flip side the drive train is so smooth and quiet. Lasting longer than R-n-R Gold. Pro's and con's.

    Should be called Muc-On.

I have been using finish line forever, and my chains last forever. Coincidence?

40 miles per application is nearly 3 x what I get, but I love it for what I use it for (short, dry 15 mile rides out here in the rocks and dust). I apply every ride.

Wait - is this thread still going? Ten pages to say "use Rock and Roll or Dumonde!"

Today I concluded that I'm done with Rock N Roll gold. Somehow it has served me well for several years but lately I can't get a good ride in without my drivetrain sounding like a meat grinder. I used to be able to ride all week on one good application but not lately. I just jumped on the Dumonde tech bandwagon...

I'm curious to hear your feedback. They were doing demos at at a few of the local shops not long ago, but I couldn't motivate myself to go to a lube demo. They make some bold claims. I'm curious at the very least.

Somebody mentioned here that the Path bike shop had it in stock, and sure enough they did, I too jumped on that bandwagon:D
    So far so goood:thumbsup:

I remember when White Lightning changed their formula and they screwed it up. Never been the same.

Hmmm, good question. I’ve been using it for the last couple years without issue. Started a new bottle before my last ride, and the drivetrain sounded pretty crunchy by mile 20.

I agree... It seems like from one bottle to the next the formula changed.
I just purchased the 4 oz. bottle on Amazon $16.92

I have the same issue with Rock N Roll Gold. I have used Dumonde since I started riding, but ran out during the lockdown. I could not find it online, so I bought a bottle of RNR.

If I follow the instructions and wipe the crap out of it, it lasts about 15-20 miles depending on how dusty it is. After that my drivetrain starts making crunchy noises. The first time it happened, I thought there was something wrong with my drivetrain. Total crap lube IMO. It does seem to last longer if I simply apply it and don't wipe it at all.

As for Dumonde, I find it works better as far as keeping the chain clean if you apply it a day or two before your ride and let it dry. The instructions do not say anything about doing that, but that has been my experience.

Sometimes I use rock and roll gold to clean my chain before I put dumond on it ... Baahahahahaaa

The Hightower lasted two lengthy outings at Chilao, and a dozen water crossings today... It's still quiet. Pretty sure I can get another ride out of it. :D

I've been using the light version...

That was exactly my experience. Makes me think RnR gold may have changed the formula.

Now Dumond lite, oh my, never had such a quiet smooth drivetrain. And only need to apply every few rides.

Now remember, Boys... This isn't a peeing contest. We're not trying to sink the Cheerios. One drop at a time. :Roflmao

I used to spray and pray, but now I find it therapeutic to delicately let one tiny drop fall on each roller. :inlove:

If you're OCD, you'll count the chain links. :cautious: :whistling:

I hope it's weak, other wise I have the onset of BB issues. I lubed prior to the ride yesterday, and things felt super crunchy on the pavement pedal back to your house. It sort of felt like it was coming from the BB, but fingers crossed the lube just shat the bed. Looking at the bike, it has every reason to sound pissed off. Either way, I just ordered a bottle of the SCC Slick this morning.

What citrus based cleaner are you referring to? Something at a grocery store or something from a bike our auto parts store?
