VISON QUEST AND COUNTING COUP TO RETURN IN 2021 ON REVISED COURSE

The Vision Quest and Counting Coup events will return in 2021 on a revised course. We intend to use the current Sundance course (which we will not have in 2021), as the Counting Coup course. The Counting Coup course will start up Black Star, across the Main Divide then down the Silverado Motorway (trail), up Maples Springs Road to 4 corners then South across the Main Divide and back down Black Star to the finish. It will be 48 miles with 9100’ of ascent.

The Vision Quest Course will be the same but we will add a loop up to Santiago Peak, which will make the course around 58 miles with 9,800 feet of elevation gain.

Those entered in the Pro class this years Sundance event will have first choice of any Vision Quest openings and those in the Intermediate class will have first choice of any Counting Coup openings in the 2021 events.

We are considering having the Vision Quest “legacy riders,” those who have finished 10 or more Vision Quests, do the proposed Vision Quest course during the Sundance as a "dry run" (they will be awarded Vision Quest feathers). Due to the time it takes to bead the awards we have to limit those participating in the “dry run."

I saw that this morning... The elevation and mileage are off, though. It's more than an 800 foot gain from Four Corners to the peak. Let's ride it and verify. :Roflmao

    9800 or 10500....over 8500 it really doesn’t matter.

The run to the peak will be up and back?

The fire road/singletrack ratio of the event is not favorable.
I'm not sure there are any other real alternatives...... sad.

Maybe 2022, soft maybe. I actually probably wouldn’t do CC again unless it was on the old route. Just riding to the ball is going to be a chore for me when I get back on the bike.

I’d do it... it’s not that much more than the Sundance route.

    Tentatively in.

Start at the tree farm. Up Silverado, up MS, tag the peak, down Motorway, down Silverado, up B*, across MD, down MS/Silverado to tree farm.

I find it funny that some members here do not care for group rides, yet they will do event rides with 100s of riders.

There’s a difference between riding in a social group versus riding in a mass start ride, especially when it breaks up like VQ/CC does. During my only CC outing there were many miles spent alone without feeling like I was even riding in an event.

Even during our group ride at the Fully Loop last year there were some cringeworthy times that our group was stopped and blocking the trail for other users. It’s almost like the herd during a group ride feels the need to stop and regroup and people forget basic etiquette.

I get that part of it. My point was aimed at the masses. Group rides have less participants than event rides do.

    Something sounds fishy to me...

Four Corners is 4350'. Santiago Peak is 5689'. That's 1339'. Plus there's 110' of downhill from the Modjeska radar towers to the bottom of the saddle. That gets me to 1449' for a Four Corners / Santiago out-and-back... if you go all the way to the tippy top. If you simply go the turnoff to the Santiago radar towers it might be 1400'. Either way, it sure isn't 700' :) Heck - just the ride from Four Corners to the Modjeska radar towers is 500' :) Someone might want to check their math.

I understand in one way and I do not understand in another way.

I am troubled with the actions of humanity as a whole. People are destructive and make poor choices (I'm no angel, myself). Therefore, I avoid the masses in general.

But here, I publicly communicate with other members. We have a common interest here, bikes, and I feel like I have made a connection with many. Therefore, I look forward to riding/interacting with the members here. I don't look at the members here the same way as I look at strangers. To me, the members here are like friends, even if I rarely see them or I have never met them before.

Corn, when you and have I hang out in the past, you seemed comfortable. You're the same to me whether we are chatting online or hanging out in person.

Where's your sense of adventure? It's only 20-40 minutes depending on rider ability, can't add that much to the cost.
