Gotta post up the Palm Canyon Epic video here! Sheesh!
I like making videos. Some come out better than others. This is a bit jittery but kind of works into the theme of the sense of urgency. We were getting chased by a rain storm and was getting spit on most of the day.

It's Gopro's handlebar mount. I have the Hero 7 Black set at 1440K, 60 FPS. I think it can go as high as 4K. It has a built in gimbal type stabilization, I believe. But it's so smooth that it actually takes away from the bumpiness of the chunky sections.

Yeah... How would you guys compare AJ to Art Smith? Of the ways I've gown down, that's the best so far...

    @mtbMike :

My video "Art's Johnson with Bombers" is a sampling of the top, roller sections of that trail (my fav). About half to 2/3 of the way through it, DROPS big time.

The later parts of @Mikie's video is that part of the trail.

Videos never do the nasty/loose/pucker/steepness sections of trails any justice. You just gotta go see for yourself. The last half of AJ is labeled as double black diamond.

Art Smith is my favorite way down.
AJ is similar to Cathedral Cyn (Cindy's) in that you're basically hurtling down a v-shaped rut filled with boulders, with respites on goat-scaring exposure, and surprise drops. The quick way down...
Art Smith will cost you 9 more miles of ups and downs with a surprisingly fun ending. Makes for a quicker self-shuttle too.

    Anyone wanna go?

@Faust29 Here is a great video of the Art Johnson I just found over on Reddit. They just posted it 5 days ago so it's recent. Definitely the way I'm going down on our next ride out there. @pdqmach26 @pperrelle

That looks pretty intense! As intense or more than Art Smith, but without all the extra uphill...

AS is my favorite, but it can feel like a swift kick in the nuts at times.

I saw the sleeve tattoo and thought this one has potential. Instead, its a bunch of bros walking the goods.. Let's refer back to @Mikie 's video of the Bomb Squad in the Deep Purple Under the Gun. The only thing missing is the lingerie. That's what's up.

Ha ha! We rode more of Art's Johnson than those guys! There was one switchback that needs trials moves and in one spot it is so exposed, about 4"wide, and the rocks were mean and sharp and scary so I walked it...

Is it me or does the trail look a bit more cleaned up (loose rock/gravel free) in this video compared to how it was when we rolled it this past weekend?

Art looks like the best trail out there that I haven’t ridden, and I wonder why? Why with some of the guys on this site has this not been a preferred route...? A new discovery?

The difference between a GoPro 3 and a GoPro 7!

It comes down to the ability of the group and sacrifices. To ride Art Johnson, you either skip Hahn Buena Vista (HBV) or you ride HBV and then have to climb back up (south) Dunn Road for 2 miles and about 750’ (feels like much more). Therefore, Art Johnson is the occasional bailout, as I suspect it was for this group.

That spot is at the 5:50 ish mark on Mikie's flick, @Mikie says "Ya you don't want to mess up here". @rossage thanks for saving me 'cause I would have tried it if you hadn't stopped. Looked like it was just waiting for a bar or pedal strike to hurtle me down the hill.

    Edit/Add: I believe the Art's Johnson steep/rocky/loose part starts around 3:24 in Mikie's clip

Yeah, that spot looked do-able but after my crash and several technical errors along the way, I didn't hesitate to walk it. Maybe next time...
    Live to ride another day.

That's the downhill on the Indian Portrero section... I just made it down "smoothly" for the first time last visit- 3rd try, I think. @Tom the Bomb and @knucklebuster sailed down it like it was smooth dirt.

Why is everybody implying that I implied that they were great riders? I only posted it because it was a well done video about a *specific* trail I wanted to see and ride....
