I can’t make this mid-week ride, but I sure would love to. I went to Orange Grove Junior High from ‘76-‘78. The days when BMX ruled! We were out on those hills/trails every day, and on the weekends, -all day long! Even back then-Tinker was a star. I wish I could show you some of our old “haunts”. Anyways, have a great ride, and send a ride report. Have fun!

It's a drive for me but I may be able to make it. If I'm there, I'm there.

No go for me. Just received an email from Corporate saying reviews are due Friday. I have 12 direct reports so I need to get busy.

I need to familiarize with Turnbull again. It's been a few years since I last rode it. The last time was with Warren. We got like 3,500 out of it.

I'd also like to get out to Santiago Oaks and Blackstar again. The last time I rode those trails was in 2012 or so when STR peeps hosted rides.

Yep. The MLK holiday pushed the normal schedule up a day this week, but February schedule is back on track.

Cool! I’m getting the hell outta Norwalk and gonna ride Monroe TT closer to home to avoid driving east on freeways during the P.M. peak hour.

I only get out to Turnbull a couple times each year. Is starting and ending on the 7th Street Loop at Orange Grove an option again? I thought that access had been permanently shut down. Started my rides there for many years dating back to the mid-90s, but over the last couple years, I started parking at William Penn Park and rearranged the route to finish on the run-out after the Cow Trail/Worsham Canyon. I still do the whole enchilada, but starting at William Penn involves more pavement and fireroad than I would prefer. The drive is also more of a PITA than starting from the Hacienda Heights side.

The Seventh Ave. trailhead is open at 9 am. It was the gate at the end of Orange Grove that was closed. But they usually keep the main gate closed for 48 hrs after a rain so I don't know about tomorrow. It didn't rain too much here today but it is wet and it is supposed to rain tonight. It's not that pleasant after a rain. I usually wait 2 days. You can also go to up to the top of Turnbull Cyn Dr. to Skyline Dr. and there is a gate at the west end that you can always get around. If you ride cowtrail, you probably know where that is. There's escalators as well up there. The weekend should be ok if it doesn't rain anymore after tonight.

Thanks for the info. Had no plans of riding out there any time soon. It's a trail system that I always steer clear of after rain. So, I guess the gate at the far end of Orange Grove is indeed still permanently closed off? I'm aware of the entrance at the corner of 7th and Orange Grove, but it doesn't seem like the ideal place to start/end a ride.

It's a tough climb to begin with, but relatively short. Totally doable.
The biggest issue is the damn rocks they put on the switchbacks all over the North end of the hills...
