Trail along Ortega

Plan on doing a repeat of this ride tomorrow https://www.strava.com/activities/56690015, but want to avoid riding along Ortega. How do I get on the creek/wash trail that runs alongside Ortega from the bottom of San Juan? Last time we got to the Hot Springs and lost the trail and went back to the 74.

Once at the bottom of San Juan as you head out the road, hop the fence that takes you into Caspers(you'll see the Portopotties. Take that road....you will make a right into San Juan Creek Trail(goes up, across them down. Just go straight until you pass Cold Springs Rd. You'll ride through what looks like overgrown creek...there is a trail there.

From there continue up San Juan Creek Trail....there will be a decent climb on the aingletrack.

So, you just hop the fence by the San Juan Trailhead?
Isn't it stupid that there isn't a gate there?

 

We hopped that fence last time and came to spot where you could go straight through some beekeeping area or go right through the hot springs, but it looked too overgrown and turned around. Now that I zoom in on your route, it looks like we were right there. Thanks!

 

There is a road that goes right before you get to the aingletrack that takes you to the Hot Spring.

That says area closed.....but there is no sign coming from Caspers that says that area is closed.
