My usual mode of operandi is to text of PMT @Voodoo Tom and ask him what are riding on Saturday on Friday night. No exception this last Friday. He had mentioned a couple of times about riding Trail 120. I guess he is a glutton for punishment. So when he mentioned it again I said, Okay, let's do it.

So as to not get in trouble with the imtbtribe as in the past, I posted it up expecting no one to jump on this beat-fest. As the usual "lame" excuses poured in... "I have a job", "My dog ate my rear Maxxis"...
I was surprised that of all people @Grego chimed in, well... sort of...
The most I read out of it was he was hoping for epic burgers afterwards and had to drop some kids off at the pool early... o_O But nothing really said, "I'm in!"

I texted Tom saying, "How many bikes can you carry?" His response was, "I'm set up for two." So I switched out my Honda Civic for the Dodge Pick up... juuuust in case. When I pulled up to Subway, Voodoo was already there, and had already ate. He got there in case Grego showed up early.

I ordered my Subway Sammy and up pulls Grego... And, he brought Vince the Trail Slayer! Good thing I switched out the truck!

So as I mentioned before, Trail 120 is a point to point. You "could" easily make it a loop, but I'm not interested.
We left my vehicle at Juniper Ridge and drove the other two vehicles up to the Lockwood Valley turn-off, off of Frazier Mountain Park Road. We park at the burned out bar across the street from Mountain View Liquor.
Bike up the road towards Lockwood, crossing the Ventura County Line, and make a left heading up toward Chuchupate Campground. It's starts out as paved and then turns to dirt as you pass Chuchupate Campground.

    The Stats for the day.

I thought Grego and the Trail Slayer were going to kill us at the end of the ride due to all the climbing, but they dug the ride! You climb 7 miles of fire road the Radar Towers then drop on fire road then climb, then drop, then climb on these big punchy rollers.

When you finally get to Trail 120, you are ready for a descent... And, descend you do. No one wanted to go first, so I lead with The Trail Slayer and his quickly howling brakes from hell right on my azz. I wish we would have video'ed it as it quickly turns to more like bike surfing then anything else. Super steep, with loose rock garden on top of rock garden, Trail 120 is not for the faint of heart. Vince and I were killing it on the drop!

We stopped a couple of times to regroup and try to get some pics in, but those are few and far between. It's best to just run a GoPro and just pull stills off it later!

At the bottom of Trail 120 we hit Hungry Valley trails (dirt roads). But there is a rel nice road drop to our next left turn. We were killing it on this rolling fast drop. At the bottom after all those miles of crazy technical executed flawlessly, I'm making a slow left turn to turn around and watch the guys fly in, I get my foot stuck in my pedal and simply fall over gashing my left knee... really? After all that!?!?!
Vince was there, but he was cool about it.

The remainder of the ride is escaping Hungry Valley Off Road Park. We are on the west end of it with a lot of punchy climbs as we head North. Hopping a couple of more fences (what's a couple more since our last adventure, right?) We drop down to my truck at Juniper Ridge. Another well executed adventure. No mechanical, no crashes, no mishaps!

We load up and head back to the trailhead where there "happens" to be Mikes Pizza and very large mugs of 805! Inside we find on a candy dispenser a... hmmmm... imtbtrails sticker on top of it! I wonder who dropped that gem on there. (It was not me!)

Grabbing grub and large brews we sat outside to some perfect weather and chugged beer and grubbed pizza!
    Another perfect-o ride.

Thanks Voodoo for suggesting it, and thanks Grego and The Trail Slayer or driving all that way to ride with us!

Best Quote of the Day: We are chowing Brew and Pizza and Vince is talking about a guy who is attempting to coach him on an old ride about jumps and landing sideways. Vince tells him, "Don't you know who I am?"

My Church bought this burned out bar and eventually remodel it into our new church...

Yep! Saw the invite and was just going to show up and surprise the guys. But then I thought they might not even bother waiting for anyone since there was not a lot of response. So I dropped a couple hints , They got it. We left from Fullytown with time to spare, we would need it. Right away Vince forgot some gear. U-turn back to the house. Then a back-up at the local breakfast dive followed by the freeway on-ramp was closed. Geese! After dealing with slow pokes on the road, the 5 would come to a stop at the 14. I just about sent a message we might go somewhere else at this point. Pedal to the metal the rest of the way. Made it just in time.
We met up. Mikie said we would hate him for all the climbing ahead. Nope, we dig climbing. Grinding up and up we went. Cool new views of mountains and forest for the Slayer and I. Voodoo was killing it. Goofed around at the lookout tower for a few then some fast downs and ups. Mikie and Vince were kicking up so much dust I thought I was at an OTH race. Down Trail 120 was a hoot! Mikie would lead followed by Vince. They're fast. Tom and I would ride at more comfortable pace. Brakes a burning. Steep loose single track galore. Skiing down I don't know how I stayed on two wheels. Kind of like the Motorway but but more loose and longer. Then some super fast flow down a fire road and some climbing back out. Pizza and beer hit the spot afterwards.
Another quote of the day - Mikie: "did I slow you down?" Vince: "Ask my brakes" (squealing). Good times!!!

Not sure if we'd make it

That is a trail you never forget! Glad you got to experience it. Nothing like the rock shute commitment! How long is
that rock crazy shute, maybe 100 yards or more?

So a once in a lifetime experience! I will never forget it! What a bummer! A big reason why I wanted to go back, what a hold on for dear life feeling, and then, hey, I made it, that was awesome!

Trail 120 carnage...When I built up the Hightower the new XT brakes came with metal pads and I tried to use em up before swapping to resins. NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I RUN METAL PADS.I think I'm deaf from listening to them scream for mercy after this ride...Oh and I went back to SLX rotors as I've had better luck with them.
