Buddy and I both had a week free in June, typically to early in the year for high country, but Colorado had a dry winter and warm spring. Planned a bunch of rides near Durrango, but fire started north of town and didn't look like it was going to get smaller. So last minute planned rides for Crested Butte. All the typical classics, so just a few words and photos from those.

Day 1 was the Whole Uncolada Shuttle near Montrose starting ontop of the Uncompahge Platue and dropping 3700 ft over 20 miles.

Kind of slow going the first few miles, but nice riding in the pines, flowers, and aspens:

Down to Pinyon and sage, for fast flowing trail:

Final view before dropping down some fun dessert trails to the parking area:

Buddy hitch hiked back up to get the truck. We took turns trying and was an hour before someone picked us up despite good amount of traffic.

    23 miles and 1572 of up. https://www.strava.com/activities/1630686229

Day 2 was a bunch of classic trails at Hartman Rocks.

    Lots of cool rocks:

Just before this sign I was thinking the trail reminded me of a local trail in the Mel Brooks network:

Aspens are cool in the fall, winter, and summer:

Drove to Utah after the ride. Major headwind and got 12 mpg...normally 22 highway.

Day 7 was Virgin Rim & Navajo Lake loop.
Virgin Rim was rustic pack trail type stuff and I really liked it, up from the parking area:

Trail next to lake had nice flow:

flowers, ground was covered with these purple flowers that turned white as the sun hit them:

Nice loop and good way to break up the drive.

Despite it being Saturday( fathers day was Sunday), still hit some Vegas traffic and didn't make it home in time for toddlers bedtime. Awesome trip.

Nice!! Monarch Crest looks much drier in your photos than I would have envisioned in my mind. Did either of you make it up Teocalli all the way w/o stopping, dabbing or walking? That ride kicked my tail but as you mentioned, it was pretty fun coming down. Coming down 401 is even more fun. Looks like a great trip.

Hey, this is better than an ebike discussion...

I always love me some Crested Butte.

That headwind on I70 is killer.

Buddy cleaned it but stopped many times. I didn't try.
401 still had mud first part of June, next time.

I walked 1/2 of it....and I took my 29er on the trip due to all the climbing. I would have loved to have my Tracer coming down Teocalli. So much fun!!!
