Had a chance to ride them the other day. All I can say is.......goddamn. Grip monsters.
the Argo rolls way better than it has any right too. The side knobs are very well supported and braking and side grip is insane. Works well with low pressure (ended up at 19.5 psi at 215# rider weight) Kind of overkill for my local trails, perhaps the 2.6 kryptotal rear up front wouldve been more appropriate, which ill try next when it wears out (why not the kryp front you ask? I dont like assegai style tread pattern with transition knobs, though the Kryp fr looks like it has more of a channel). Looking forward to riding it up at Big Bear . The kryp rear rides a lot like the dhr 2, rolls about the same and has a little more climbing traction. I saw some reviews that said it did not brake well, like it either rolled free or skidded, that was not my experience at all, braking was well controlled. It seemed to like higher pressure, I ran 26.5 psi in dhr 2 and had to run 27.5-28 psi in the kryp or the side knobs got a little foldy. But didnt feel bouncy at that pressure. so kryp rear on the back is my new go-to, and id say try a kryp for the front for mixed socal trail conditions the argotal maybe is a bit much, more suitable if all your trails are loose loamy or damp, but it doesnt roll too bad. or save it for DH use. Obviously these tires are better suited for tooling around in Aliso/Laguna or hitting snow summit than big mileage Santa Ana epics. With the price of gas now, probably doing lots of aliso riding for a while.
I like the rubber compound on both

You all are far more aware of your tire performance than I will ever be. I just stick with what works. Not at all tire curious.
Maybe I should have tire angst like all y’all!

Let's not forget all the tires with black sharpie... :whistling:

These days, I am just looking for tires! I wasn't able to locate any of the DD Maxis tires I wanted (Assegai/DHR), so I had to settle and buy something else. Once the DHF/Aggressor I have right now wear I have a set of Pirelli and a set of Conti's.

I’ll give it a go. Looks like a better front tire option than the Rekon.

hoping on the rear it doesn’t suffer the same issue as the old version…..side knobs were too big and spaced out…:pushing hard into turns you could feel them roll over.

Pro tip: When on group rides with no intention of chasing Strava hardware, swap bikes with the crew to taste other tires. This how I learned the new Specialized Purgatory has no place on the front wheel of anything I ride.

I would buy a new bike. But that's just me. And Todd.

Smartassity aside, I'm not sure I would ride those tires new. They look like moto tires! But their current condition doesn't scare me, as long as they are sealing.

I rode the Maxxis Dissector 29x2.4 EXO TR (dual compound) as a rear on SART and thoroughly enjoyed it. Noticeably less rolling resistance than the Kenda Hellkat and only slightly less braking traction, granted the Hellkat (pictured above) had 600-700 miles on it while the Dissector was new. Dissector is superior to the Rekon in my opinion, as it has much better traction with little perceivable increase in rolling resistance.
