    Well now that i've thoroughly confused myself as i have studied the maxxis mtn bike tire website... i will ask for some suggestions

    Currently running on my Ripmo

    Front = DHF 2.50
    Rear = Aggressor 2.30

    For our local Orange County trails taking all the hard ways downhill, would you keep this tire combo or put something different on the wheels?

    My rear is about toast so i do need to replace that soon. No need to replace front yet.

    No real complaints with current setup other than it would be nice to drop rolling poundage to help a slow climber out.

    I’ve been running the 2.4 Dissector on the rear of the Ripmo. DHF front.

    Our bikes are of virtually identical geometry and purpose, and for me the DHF/Aggressor combo, both in 2.5, is where the bike really came alive. The 2.5 Aggressor seemed to pedal better than the 2.4 DHRII, and the 2.5 DHF is something I don't think I'd want to live without, at least for a primary set up, now that I've gotten used to it. I've also run 2.4 Dissectors front and rear, and Dissector front/2.4 Rekon rear. The latter setup is a great faster rolling lighter weight substitute for the DHF/Aggressor, with exactly the advantages and compromises you'd expect.

    How much do you weigh? More than 200, keep the rear volume at or above 2.3. Under 200, you can get away with a 2.2 in the rear if it has legitimate knobs.

    At 1000g and 900g you really aren't gonna drop much weight....at least not staying at those tire sizes. The DHF rolls pretty well for what it is. Believe it or not, the Aggressor rolls quite well.

    Normally I'd say try a Rekon 2.4 on the rear, it's a little less aggressive, but lighter and rolls better.

    Yes, keep that combo. No need to change it IMO. The aggressor is great for climbing and the DHF hooks up well for the descents. I wouldn’t worry about your climbing ability because based on your post sounds like you wanna focus on your descents so going with something less aggressive especially up front would not be wise.

    I'd keep the same combo but go to a 2.5 in the rear. You're on a Ripmo. No sense in compromising your DH for shaving a few seconds off a climb.

    Good advice here. Different solutions that work for respective riders. Some pushing XC-ish gear to its limit, some dragging weighty tires up for the reward going down, or riding said tires all over BFE because who knows why. And combinations of them.

    Cisco said it for me. DHF/Aggressor is a great combo that I've used on my hardtail and FS. I used it Friday on the Big Chief run. My rear is on its way out, and I'll be trying a Dissector 2.4 then. Just to try something new that specs/reads appealing. Not because I dislike the Aggressor.

    In the past when I've wanted some extra XC zoom on my FS, I put a light tire on the rear. I've used Ardent Race, but the Ikon J mentioned upthread (or whatever aggressive XC tire) would serve the same purpose. A little drifty in the back sometimes, but legit.

    It sort of comes down to your riding and tire performance characteristics preferences. DHF sets the bar for traction and durability, IMO. Most agree. I ran a set of Rekon 2.6 on ~300 mi of the AZT and found them less durable but respectable in every way. I saw lots of lighter Maxxis tires being raced. My hardtail just got a new Rekon 2.4 in front and Ardent Race back. That's the lightest setup I've ridden in awhile, but I ride all the same trails I do on the DHF/Aggro, maybe a little backed off.

    Not much of a suggestion, I Rekon, but another opinion... :geek:

    I like the DHF front and rear. I put an Aggressor on the rear last time, and I've regretted it ever since.

    DHF/Aggressor has been my choice since the Aggressor came out. Before that was DHF/Highroller II. I'm fixing to mount up a fresh pair of E13 AT 2.4's. Read some good stuff about their new MoPo rubber and they're cheaper than Maxxis so why not? The Vegas desert should be a good testing ground.

    I lost track how many years old my front DHF is (further more I cant remember last time I added Stans sealant either:confused:). For sometime I did have a 2.3 DHF on the rear as well. Rolls better than DHR while still having big knobs. Probably go back to that combo after my Aggressor wears down. Haven't been a fan of the Aggressor. Don't like the way it picks up small rocks and flicks them into the seat/chainstays. Never had another tire do that like the Aggressor does. That and the sidewall blew 3rd ride. Been booted and tubed ever since. YMMV IMO

    I recently swapped out from the DHF/DHR combo to Bontrager XR4 Team Issue. So far I have been very impressed. They seem to roll very well while dropping a bit of weight and thus far really hook up well.

    The problem with the XR series is they are not as durable as the Maxxis EXO tires.

    He started this in the "Maxxis" discussion, so we all assumed he wanted to stick with them......but I agree, I have been running the SE4 on the Hightower and they have been great alternatives to the DHF/Aggressor combo I had been running.

    I thought about Bontrager tires... read good reviews on here and other sites... i figured i'd stay with Maxxis since i like them overall and i really don't wear through tires as fast as most riders on this site. So i figured i'd stay with a brand i know and enjoy for now.

    Maxxis is awesome / the standard.... But within brand you are limited to said selection.

    The DHF 2.5 WT was / is the most confidence inspiring front I have ridden... But also Rubber Curious... So you know... Got to explore

    I like to try others running some Bonties on another bike and Lastest Hans Damps on the Bronson.

    Good point @Grego . I hadn't thought of that, explains a lot of the scratches. That's it... no more Aggressor's my OGHT desreves better.
