Received a lightning alert then 5 minutes later. . .

 

Doesn't look like I'll be riding the next few days. . .

One of the sketchiest drives I've done coming back from AZ to SD on I-8 last night. Crazy strong winds blowing sideways rain and heavy mist. Took both hands to keep the truck on the road.

Caltrans/CHP looked like they were about to close the highway as I passed Ocotillo....all vehicles being diverted down the offramp, anything high profile at all was getting turned off the freeway to wait it out.

 

This morning, news radio reported the Interstate 15 is closed from Baker to Stateline due to snow!

 

Scanning around looking at NOAA forecasts....some crazy amounts of snow forecast, even at the low end, between now and Saturday.

Low estimate of 17" and high estimate of 36" snow for Santiago Peak.

Mt Wilson - 46" to 66"

Pacifico Mtn - 77" to 100"

Palomar Mtn - 39" low and 63"

Mt San Jacinto - 51" to 89"

Idyllwild - 38" to 62"

Tree went down in my grandmas back yard a few weeks ago. First wind right after a bunch of rain. I am guessing the tree is the same age as the house, so about 50.

By pure luck it fell perfectly in a safe place.

 

How is that even possible?!

I should go out to the corner of my street and start selling snow shoes.

 

Yeah I'm kinda doubting even the low numbers given how often storms fizzle out. But if we can get 24" of rain in a day or so in Santa Barbara mtns, maybe?

 

Driving up the hill from Fresno there were CalTrans snow plows getting ready.
They were not even at the begining of the climb up. Snow starting at 1,000' tonight
Spousal Unit text at the base of the Grapevine and it was snowing this morning.

 

All the wicked witches of the east and west are gonna melt!

 

Friday will be the perfect weather for a killer beef stew in the crockpot. Ingredients on standby....

11 inches of rain and still falling...

 

Less than 3" in Simi.

 

I think we're in a "lucky" spot at the base of the mountain... A mile or two below us in Pasadena, the totals are about half of what we have.

The Gabrielino should be good to go some time in May...

 

Yeah. Yesterday, I was watching the radar all day waiting for it to dump on me and it didn't really start raining on my route until around 3. Driving back to Sylmar around 5 was a different story. It was raining so hard I could barely see the road.

Bahaha, you do not want to drive that car in the snow. I tried once when I had mine and it was insta spin ... which is fun under the right conditions, but not on a narrow mountain road.

 

Was going to do a LS swap, but too much weight in the front, looking like a supercharger as I don't like turbos.
Was offered 3k just for the Mugen rear spoiler,yes I use old school terminology on my parts.
Yes, it's still cold up here.
