Well, we're going to need some sort of posse or we'll be at this all winter. Calling @jaime and any other imtbtrails brothers and sisters.. we need your help. If you like this trail, we need your help on this trail.

The calm before the storm.. stuck back behind my desk today.

 

I was out in Indio yesterday, knew the rain was coming in....but the contractor wanted to work.

The welder started welding on some tube steel connections. The rain started, he wanted to keep going. After I rejected a few weld because of the rain , the welder asked if he could keep going. Standing on a ladder in the rain/mud with his welding leads in puddles of water.....ummmm, do you really think that is safe??? I couldn't stop him, but I could reject everything he did...fortunately the general contractor was what was going on and shut him down.

So driving home though Palm Springs/Morongo Valley....rain was coming down do hard, visibility was under 100'.

 

Rainy days in the garage. Good time to check your brake pads.

So did you change your brake pads? Downtime during the rain is a good time.

Exactly, he still has the spring and backer plate to wear through.

 

No but I pulled my Neo hub apart to check it as I know they are prone to failure. Yup. It failed. I'm glad it didn't fail on the PCE ride.

 

Can't wait till tomorrow at the shop. I should see quite a bit of brake pad carnage. And damaged rotors, and....

 

I had my Stans hub fail toward the end of our Moab trip in November. The pawls bent back the metal that holds them in place so the freehub wouldn't spin. Of course now that everything is XD or whatever no one in Moab or Fruita had a standard Stans freehub in stock. The mech was able to shave it down enough that it would spin ok and allowed us to finish the last couple rides, or I would have been renting the last couple days. I may buy a spare freehub for the toolbox so I'm not screwed if this happens again!

Been said before....Stans hubs are not good for big or strong riders.

 

Nope. I destroyed two Stan's 3.30 HD hubs before I went with a Hope PRO 2. More than three years and never an issue. I just wonder how they make bulletproof rims but they can't make a decent hub.

 

Back to weather... blowing through now actually pretty neat outside nice stars etc.

I was in LA / SaMo today got some rain but I was watching OC got pretty pounded, I saw a number of red band go through there was one that went through Orang then into Corona that look pretty Awesome.
Wife call me water was blowing in under the doors in HB. HB usually take a pretty good hit, My theory Palos Verdes and Catalina funnel some of right towards LB, HB, NB...
Sierra Peak say 1.4" in 24 hours.
2.5" At top of motorway yesterday and today.
There are a few more bands out there I suspect will get some isolated.

What will I ride... not sure... but MTB thinking I am breaking out the SS.. .less to clean.

 

Whenever I think the weather is bad I check Mount Whitney aka Fisherman's Peak conditions. Like starting right now, nine feet of snow on tap. On top of what fell alreddy...a tad nippy as well.

 

we need a weather reporter for the heads up on trail riding and trail conditions....

Yup.....saw that. Might make for an interesting ride today.

It's a light rain here. I was contemplating aloud a ride on the road bike and @MrsUPSed said no. Maybe I can sneak out after she leaves.

Walked my wife to her church and stopped by to pick up some sourdough from the water-logged farmers market.
Showers Pass Refuge jacket, Columbia Omni Tech pants, Shimano XM 7 shoes.
Completely dry on the inside.
No bad days, just bad gear.

 

I'm contemplating a hike in my UPS rain gear. If I have to work in it I may as well play in it right?

Ed, if you do, you simply must carry a small package with you. Talk about advertising. Job security, y'know?
