I prefer running over riding when it’s real hot. (Though I sure prefer cool weather in general). No helmet, gloves, pads, or extra 35 lbs of bike+gear. Easier to start early and finish early, much shorter time for same level of workout.

That's also how I felt when I lived in SoCal. I could run from my house around my community, and finish 5 miles in less time than a round trip to the bike trails. However here the roles are reversed. Here I can bike from my house... and due to lack of running trails in the area I have to drive to my runs :)

Not so much...heat warning extended through Saturday here and forecast highs for the weekend were increased 5-10°.

    in-soviet-russia-heat-beats-you.png

I'll be back from a ride around 10:00-10:30 and probably won't win the race to beat 100°. :gag:

You'd think the name would be a clue. That, and swimming pools getting too hot to swim in being normal thing.

Very humid early, fog moved from the coast to about 20 mi inland in maybe 15 min. Started to rain, tried to race it home, made it to shelter about 10 min out from home and all heck broke loose with strong winds, thunder and hammering rain. Lasted maybe 5-10 min. then uneventful last stretch home. Weather is fun.

If I'm reading that correctly, it's still okay to leave living things in the hot car to die as long as they're not pets or people. Worried me for a sec.

What's especially brutal is that the forecast is a few degrees lower than what they said yesterday and the triple-digits still extend up at elevation in the hills. I was off my pace by a minute per mile today just trying make it home. The bike is satin black and I couldn't touch the top tube for more than a handful of seconds.

SoCal Edison, PG&E, etc. have more weather stations all over the state than the NOAA does and they update a lot more often. The University of Utah has a map where they(and many other networks including NOAA) are accessible here: https://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/mesomap.cgi?state=CA&rawsflag=3

Not sure what you guys are complaining about. It was around 115° to 117° all week. Walked out tonight at 11 pm and still 104°. Go early and lots of water.

You’ve got low humidity. We in So Cal have very high humidity (for our area) as of late. With that, it doesn’t have to be hot even though it has been. The main thing is that the air has to be kept moving since it’s so thick and soupy. Darn monsoon effect!

Drove home from Vegas yesterday afternoon. Left it was 102...no biggie. But then when hit Calif, 116/117. I got a little worried and stressed driving through the desert at that temp thinking that the car might break down, of which the side of the 15 was littered with. Almost 3 hrs until it dropped to an arctic like 105 and my anxiety started to wain. But then the traffic!

Arrived home and it was a cool 71*. Ah....OC....Vegas just ain't my thing.

    Amen brother. Amen.

And not just because of weather. I've just never been a Vegas kind of guy.

    107° in Madera County today.

I would go for a night ride by myself, but Mountain Lions and Bears kinda worry me.
    Nobody night rides up here.

Exactly, weather isn't it. Stuck inside for days, $5 coffee, $50 charge of I want to put a bottle of water in the room fridge etc etc.
But I did play 2 pulls of one slot machine and came out $350 ahead. That was enough for me. Was going into coughing fits from the cigs.

I know about the humidity loved in Orange County for the first 44 years of my life. I agree it is totally different in Phoenix. I look at the weather and use 100° as my time to be finishing up. Funny thing back home no way I’d ride after 90° if I could help it, too hot.

Yesterday we went up the palm springs tramway to san jac with brotherin law and nephews who are visiting, as it was the easiest way to get high enough to go hiking in pleasant temps (besides the coast). Even above 8'000 it was much warmer than average, around 70-75. Good enough for me, the boys still complained about the warmth (theyre from Seattle :)) Still pushed them to do the 5 mile round valley loop. Stopped for ice cream in palm springs after, 112 and windy. I dont know how anyone can live there in the summer. Th temperature drop driving back into orange county was astonishing, always nice to see that marine layer. We did the tram because the boys had never been and we thought itd be fun for them. Seemed more inetersted in their phones and complained about the hike (kids these days...)
Wife and I are heading to the Eastern Sierras next week for a hiking trip, temps look much better, bummer about the drought though, there and everywhere it seems.

Just checked the weather...... I'll be experiencing rain and lightning the next couple weeks.

I really don't know what I'm going to do, being from So Cal rain is a pretty foreign language these days. :eek:maybe an umbrella will be in order :cautious:

50% chance of rain. Either it rains, or doesn't.

Heavy rain and hail here in Truckee last night. It’s been high 80’s/low 90’s.

I always take that to mean it's going to rain somewhere, and you've got 20% chance of getting hit. Looks like you lost (or won?)

The NOAA's Furnace Creek station is currently reporting 126° and their forecast high for today is 129. It recorded 130° yesterday. Water at that temp only takes about 10 seconds to start causing injury. o_O

Oh cool, the campground isn't requiring reservations right now.
