Went for a SUP group event today. Raining at my house in Lake Forest at 9am. Just overcast in Sunset Beach at 10:30. Sun came out at 1 when we were BBQing brats. Sprinkling at home in LF when I got home
Basically, perfect.

 

Rain and snow at Tahoe north rim is over; no substantial accumulations. Sub-freezing nighttime/morning temps lingering, but fall will be back shortly.

 

Batten down in upper/central west US, a big blast of early winter is coming. Safe over here in Tahoe, perfect days but night lows in the teens. I love these conditions...partly because no one does anything until it warms up, so you get hours in the BC alone before the sleepyheads show up.

Looks like SoCal is regulated; 15° between the low and high. Pretty nice weather all over CA. Be glad you're not in Billings.

Not even close. While your fly can breed on any pile of Sh!t, the endemic fly below requires the delicately composed aeolian sands of Lytle Creek to support it.

Dang, 50 acre fire burning super close to Space Mountain and sycamore Canyon. 0% containment.

 

Yeesh, just took the dog out one last time before going to bed. Smell of smoke is strong in the air, though we should be upwind of the reported fires nearby. Hard to relax on nights like this.

Did the Porter Ranch/Granada Hills fire start from the Sylmar fire?

 

I believe so. I have a friend in Mission Hills that says that's where the embers came from.

 

All is well at our place thankfully. We were standing by to help my friend that lives at Oakridge mobile home park. They were forced to evacuate around 10:30pm because the winds were unpredictable.
Meanwhile it was utter chaos with people trying to get horse trailers into the horse ranch next door. Some were running out with a horse in each hand and handing them off to people standing on Foothill blvd. Then rushing back in for more.
This morning the eastern flank is slowly headed to Olive View medical. The western end of the fire has reached Porter Ranch.

 

Isn't Olive View the one that fell down in the '71 Sylmar quake?

I heard on the news that someone tried to get through by going around one of the closed road barriers. That driver was wearing a shiny pair of handcuffs shortly there after.

 

Tahoe Rim tomorrow: high in the 20s with winds up to 35.

 

I’d take that over the very hot and dry devil wind weather we’ve had down here lately.

 

Agreed! Cold, layer up; hot...get up earlier?
