Calm? Are you sure that the leaves aren't blowing a little there?

Isn't Simi an Indian word for "wind"?

Mine is a drivers training story. I lived in PV, drivers training on a Saturday. Literally the first time I drove a car. The trainer had me drive through San Pedro, onto the 110 fwy. No joke I was scared s#%tless. We ended up in Redondo Beach before we switched drivers.

I learned how to drive at the age of 12 in the "Chevota". It was a '64 Toyota Land cruzer with a healthy 327 Chevy in the good ol days before we had stinking smog laws. My dad & I were out cutting firewood one day when he had a slight mishap and the saw bucked and tried to cut his leg off. He looked at me & said "you know what to do". I didn't know how to work the clutch or shift gears so I cranked it with the clutch out till it fired hauled ass in low gear to the nearest ranch where we borrowed a phone to call for help. Tons of stitches and a stay in the hospital and he was ok.

Then by the time we were 14 my best friends dad bought us a $150 Chevy Malibu cause there was nothing else he could do to keep us out of his cars when he wasn't around. That bad boy ran on 7 cylinders and had about 6" of mud stuck to every square inch but damn it was fun.

Then when I was 16 I really wanted an El Camino but dad didn't like em. Wound up with a '36 Ford Pickup(still have it) with a built small block. Truck was stupid fast and every penny I made went in to making it stupid faster. Darn good thing dad was best friends with the local sheriffs not to mention he was their main moonshine hookup or I'd probably still be locked up...

Took my driving test in a 1980 Volvo station wagon with a canoe strapped to the luggage rack. Had to unkook the tent trailer in the DMV parking lot before the test though. We were on our way to Wyoming for a summer vacation.

Driving - I learned to drive in a 1970 Volkswagen bug. 40 hp miracle car. First car I bought, though, was a 1966 Pontiac Grand Prix. That thing was a freakin' boat, but man it had power. 421? Whatever big-block V-8 they used in them things.

Much more interesting tale behind the motorcycle endorsement. :whistling:

I was one of those idiots that thought "I can handle a big bike as my first bike!"

Bought a Buell X1 (piece of Sh!t) as my first bike. Rode it home on the freeway in the bay area across the Richmond Bridge, in the rain. But, I was at least properly geared (full suit, full face, boots and gloves). I survived though.

    True story:

ONE of the times my X1 was broken, I took my wife's B-Last to a big event in Modesto (about 90 minutes away). They had a dyno competition...25 hp, 28 ft lbs from the BLast.

Another wimpy storm... I can't even call this rain. We are soaked but it's a constant heavy drizzle, more like being inside a cloud.

I believe..... a couple degrees cooler and it would be snow. Could turn to that overnight/tomorrow. Foggy all day, rain started half hour ago. The snow on the ground is from the last storm ~6 inches, San Bernadino Mtns a little under 6K ft elevation..

There is actual water dripping from the sky here, 3.5 miles NNW of the Happiest Place on Earth (as the crow flies). How long that will last is anyone's guess. Tomorrow morning I may load up the bike and go east.
