Rossage and I did the pinky swear handshake on the way home from San Juan Trail that we are indeed doing the Kokopelli run with Bikerpelli in May...

The plan is to overwhelm the 2nd run of the Kokopelli event with imtbtrails folks that Bikerpelli puts on in May.

Very interesting sounding ride.
Think with a little ( or a lot of..) conditioning this is very doable.
I'm going to give this some thought :idea:

 

Wow... That really puts my "long" rides into perspective. I think I'm afraid to ask my wife about it. She'd probably say, "Go ahead". :shock:

Temping. Very very tempting. Except that I told myself the next time I drove all the way to Fruita I was going to spend 3-4 days riding the local trails.

I will be keeping an eye on this post. Which trip? The 1st or 2nd?

 

I've done this ride twice... It's awesome.
Bikerpelli does two runs in the month of May.

We always do the 2nd run usually around the 8th of May.

 

2015 signup is on January 14th. I know it "says" the word "Starts" on the 14th, but it sells out the first day.
imtbtrails will be signing up for the May 7th thru 10th run...

All the most excellent food and beer (if you choose) you can consume.

Alex is a good friend and he puts on a first class EPIC you will not forget!

 

Darn - Tracy and I are doing this but have to dothe first trip on April 30. Her son's birthday falls during the 2nd trip and she has special plans for him.

If you guys change your mind, let me know.

 

I'm going to sign for trip number two Mike. How many rides a week do you recommend to train for it and how long should those rides be by the time May gets here? It sounds like this ride sells out really quick, should I be waiting at my computer by midnight the morning of the 14th or will I be safe to wait till a reasonable hour?

You are going to do 145 miles in 4 days....so you gotta be able to do 35 miles a day....4 days in a row. Plus those 35 miles a day may be tougher than they look.

4 months is plenty of time to get ready....be t if are not getting some good saddle time....you may suffer.

 

3 day ride. 4th day bus ride back to Fruita. 3 timer

 

Ok.....so 45 miles on average for 3 straight days......if you can do 35....you can do 45.

The first wake-up email just went out from Bikerpelli.
The real secret to making this ride is proper nutrition on the trail and hours in the saddle.

The first day you need to bring your technical skills. In my opinion the funnest day.
Day 2 is a roadie type of ride with some amazing technical fun at the end.
Day 3 is a climber, so save some legs. But you are tremendously rewarded in Moab with the Porcupine Trail!

Awfully quiet here regarding an Epic of Epics....
I even posted over on STR in hopes to rally a troop.

Jennifer and I are planning on this for next year. Planning Park City in July with OTB.

 

Important change!
We are switching to the first run so as to ride with some folks that can not make the 2nd run.

 

Saw 4 days 142 miles and quickly closed the page. Yikes! Those numbers are scary.

I can only dream of getting in that type of shape right now. Speaking of that I should probably go to the gym right now and exercise!

 

And there is no doubt that Koko is a hell of an experience! I don't think the hole ride is epic but, the epicness of the other cancels out what is not. Lucky for me the weather was perfect 2 years ago cause I was barely ready for the ride itself as far as training. Me and Joe Mack thought we were going to die together on the last day. We bonded over many miles of climbing and much suffering! Then the downhill came and we forgot all about it.
I thought the hole operation was run beautifully.
I've been quite because I haven't decided if I want to put in the training commitment? This is as close as it gets to doing the crazy stuff Rossage does, but not quite. Still deciding.

 

Come on out a few days early and we can do some crazy stuff! Portal, Jacobs ladder, slickrock.....

 

Online registration opens at 9am on Wednesday, January 14. Do it early......

I would love to ride in this shindig, but definitely I will be in no condition to ride this spring or summer. I shall be fasting from anything sport and expect to hit 300lbs by June. 3xD will be known as the Caboose.

Good luck this morning guys, I hope ya’ll get a spot for the trip!! I was on the fence about this and was going to sign up till I saw the date move. As Mikie knew Julie and I are going to be in Moab at the time of the second run, we have had that trip scheduled for a few months now. Unfortunately it’s not feasible for us to change our plans as we’ll be in Sedona two weeks earlier and can’t swing that much time that close together. I didn’t mention my intentions as I wasn’t sure where I’d be physically, but figured I could sign up, just train until around March 20th and decide at that date.

 

I'm in.
