The Goose gets Bombed! The Bomb Squad landed in Hurricane , Utah last Wed. night with Doug and I landing ahead of Redwoods, T-2 and Pat Stuart to land Thursday afternoon. This mission was supposed to go to Moab but with only 5 days to get it done we redirected to a closer location for more riding. Day 1 would be a warm up ride, Barrel roll lollipop , Sidewinder and down Precipice. A good 1st day intro to the many techy lifts, rocks and shale ledges both going up and down. Good stuff, I think this is where Redwoods would ding his new rear rim. Luckily it was not as bad as the one he did at chilao. No issues. A fun trail mix to get things rolling. Afterward we stopped at Over the Edge to shop around. Pat picked up a new DD Minion to insure he would not take out a rim on the rides to come. Back to Doug's house for grub and libations to get ready for tomorrow. Day 2 GRAFTON MESA! A beautiful trail at elevation with fun twisty ledges and tricky maneuvers around the next turn. This trail keeps your focus baby. Take your eyes off the trail and you stuff a wheel or hook a bar and down you go. There is one spine ride that Pat S. was the only one to clean. We should rename him Big balls Pat! We rolled all the others until we hit the hairball , boulder rolling, drop and breathe trail descending the mesa. Tough techy chit baby. This is where the Crazy Hillbilly and Black Betty got their mojo going. A great ride , probably my favorite. Day 3 would be a big one. The hurricane loop with Dead ringer added in. This one took some work. Like day 1 lots of techy climbing and then you get to descend Dead ringer and Jem. Fast , flow with square edges and jumps to keep you smiling. A great day on the bike. That night we had a hellacious thunder and lightning storm. I swear I thought we were gonna die! The ground shook, the trailer shook and I am still shaking! It sounded like the thunder just kept echoing through the canyons. There was lightning with no time in between the thunder. Frieken scary! Day 4 we finally get to ride Zen. We had been trying to fit Zen in but could not make it work. Today it worked . This is just a 6.5 mile ride but rides like 12. It got a bit warm on us and with all the techy climbing this one worked us. Very cool rock formations and ride unders with a shear drop off the back side . Most everyone agreed this was there favorite of the trip. Doug took a tumble trying to stop and assess a drop and just could not hold on. Bruised some ribs. Hope he heals up quick. Big Balls Pat just killed the whole weekend. He rode his new Stumpy like the pro he is. T-2 rode his Blue bomber yeti hard and fast whoopin it up all weekend long. Getting all that 5.5 travel. Redwoods rode it so hard he had to buy a bigger , fatter burlier tire so he would not break something. Pat was on a mission. Hillbilly got his mojo on . He put Black Betty where she shined. In the CHUNK! A great way to finish the mission with great riding buddies and memories to last a lifetime. Picks and vids to come.
