Ooof. Surprised it got to those homes so fast. They had fire breaks and tile roofs and it didn’t make a damn bit of difference.

About 2 miles from me as the crow flies. Wind blowing hard away from us. Horrible for those residents directly impacted.

Hah! I live in a shack. 1100' sq. No yard, no garage. We do have 2 BR and 3 baths, but the BRs are tiny. But I do love where we live.

 

My shack is 900’ , but with garage (my bike man cave) and yard!

 

I’ll bet Disneyland trail between the fire and Laguna has been widened as a firebreak

 

No need to justify. Mountain people rip us as lesser all the time. "Flatlanders" is cute. I was about 10 seconds from a fight at the top of SkyPark once.

It looked like they cut the firebreak between Disneyland and the service road. I hope so.

 

They should bulldoze the whole place and let the Greer Ranch 'Philippine Army' come over and build up a badass trail system.

 

Authorities should have thinned the San Joaquin Forest. It’s only May.

You are correct, just below Disneyland. Sewer drop is in burn area on left.

 

You would think a 300 foot west facing slope in costal sage scrub would be sustainable. the brittle brush and chamise are well spaced But it pays off having reduced the sage below the crest where your back fence is located. The sea breeze driven fire ran fast and hot because there is good space between the plants allowing a rear fuel-air ratio. The photo shows nobody reduced the fuel below their fence.

 

I saw a lot of mentions about eaves and attic vents and such making houses more vulnerable to fire.
A classic photo was republished from the 1993 Laguna fire showing the one surviving house on a long ridge. It was built to survive.

Most of Aliso is now open , with the exception of meadows, mentally sensitive (for some reason the map calls that sheep run, never heard that before) , Aliso creek east, and anything south of the woods canyon turnoff.

I don't see a legend for the closure on that.
I'm sure at least part of Aliso Summit Trail must be closed as well.
And, doesn't Mentally Sensitive go all the way to the road?

Everything in yellow is closed. Actually MS veers left just before the road abd continues as a trail to connect with meadows

 

The park renamed Memtally Sensitive as Sheep Run. I guess somehow the first name wasn’t PC
