So we can't edit our posts after a day? WTF?

Spelling and grammar errors should not live on until the end of time. Give us back our edits, or face the wrath of the proletariat.

    Or at least explain yourself.

@Mikie reinstituted the timer on the edit feature, because several users had gone back in time and deleted all of their content one post at a time. o_O Some went back years... And it must have taken forever to do.:Roflmao

There's the explanation... Now for the discussion. I'll go put on my flame proof suit now.

It is what it is...if there's good reason for it, then it's the forum owner's prerogative of course.

Not sure why we would care if someone deletes their own posts, no matter how laborious that may be.

Bottom line: I don't like it, but I don't have to run the site.

Guess they will be just blank posts now, as the bashful posters will still show as the poster of the post.
    They will be found out!

    #noregrets Shy posters!!!

I often will correct my posts if I unintentionally say something that someone takes offense to - or to just clarify. Or to add a picture of @DangerDirtyD - since that spices up all of my posts. Not sure why the Pinkbike approach. I think having a rule that affects many because of one or two who do something you don't like may be overreach. But it's not my show - and I know people so... I'll shut up now.

I have discovered through these years such wisdom as, “There is no winning for Forum Owners.”
    Why does it matter?
We have a picture slot machine, for example, as I click on those pics, I discover disjointed threads where “some” have deleted their posts, I mean ALL of them! Why? So as I (and others) try to decipher what was deleted and following text, I”m thinking what’s the point? In attempt to visualize the big picture, why even say anything if you are just going to deleted it later.
Believe it or not, several people have done this. No telling why. I understand deleting stuff that may have been a huge whoops and rewriting it, but I’m just against, as you say, “cancel culture”.
Check me on this, but most Forums apply the same concept.
Why do Forums not allow people to delete their posts, change the Title, or... edit after a certain amount of time?
Because the philosophy is think about what you type, or title, or post long term.
If I post a title about Maxxis Tires and a whole thread is about Maxxis Tires, then the OP changes the title to Oatmeal, then what’s the point? I know stupid analogy.
I’m not going to allow people to delete history regardless of their reasoning, well... unless they contact me and share a compelling reason I guess. Same reason I don’t delete memberships. Cause and effect, people write stuff and others reply, losing a percentage of the thread is just wrong.

No matter what, there is going to be a time limit on editing. No one is allowed to delete volumes of their posts after a certain time.

Be realistic, what is a fair time limit to allow editing before it becomes historical Hooligan documentation?

    That's one reason...

On my site I have had to cut the edit window down to 20 minutes, because people will otherwise post contentious / offensive / spam content, and then delete or change it. If you cut the edit window short, it is much harder for them to get away with it, or at least fewer people will see it.

Then again, bonsai discussions are often a lot more heated than those about mountain biking :)

Same here. But what's annoying is auto correct. If I say hay Upsed, don't bogart that joint you Dweeb. It might come back as
(upset don't go-cart that joint you Dwarf). On "Adventure Rider" dual-sport site you get a whopping five minutes.

It's the best! There is a fantastic documentary called Never Surrender... Highly recommended for everyone even if you've never seen Galaxy Quest! But if you have never seen Galaxy Quest why would I even be talking to you??????
