SS Barby Hits the Dirt!

He has not posted it here yet...
But @SS Barby hit the dirt... hard!
Crashed on Klunker 2, one of the best but shortest singletrack descents at P12.

He text me this morning saying he was going to pass on our after work ride today. Sent me a couple of pics. One I just had a hard time looking at.

Said he broke his Ripley Frame and did a face plant. Bit through both his upper and lower lips.
I can post the pics, but I will let him do that.

John says he needs a new frame and can not at this time afford a new one. I'm not sure if he can get it warrantied or not.

He says he is okay, but I still want to lift him up with prayer and healing vibes, and throw out there requests for suggestions to get him rolling on another Ripley frame...

This place is the best!

Wow that's a bummer, sounds like a real pounding... Prayers for a fast and strong and full recovery @SS Barby . It's always the darn home trails that we've ridden tons of times that bite us. John I know your in the midst a move, please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything I can do to help. I'm pretty good at grunt labor.

Everybody, thank you so much for the wishes. All is good.

So here goes..
Decided on Wed. night to go for an after dinner spin. It was nothing extreme. It was really hot and windy outside, so was just out pedalling not hammering or anything. On my way heading back towards the start decided to take one of mine and @Mikie favorite trails in the P12 area of Palmdale.

I took the tough climb to the top called Jolene and then upon reaching Klunker I stood there trying to decide whether to take it or not. (1st mistake). You see I have had nothing but problems on this trail with numerous overshooting switchbacks and flat tires. I decided to go but wasn't fully concentrating (2nd mistake) as a trail like this requires and deserves. So I exited one of the switchback turns in the descent and next thing I know my face is becoming best friends with a rock.

I turned my mouth and face into taco meat. Got up and hiked back to top of Canyon and coasted down the main road back to start and my house. During my bloody coast home, I felt some sway in my seat tube. Looked down and noticed my seat tube is cracked. Now I am really concerned ( as all of mtbers are more concerned about our bikes then our bodies).

Long story short, all is OK. My face is healing. I can't barely talk or eat because my mouth is so swollen. My frame is definitely broken
But, I found a carbon frame repair shop in Rialto, Ca. called www.donsbikeshop.com. Would appreciate any reviews if anybody has any, as there are others out there but this one is local. Should cost around $450 much more manageable than buying a Ripley V4 frame at $3K, right now, as much as I'd like too.

Sorry about late story. Went to work yesterday and it wore me out so came home and passed out last night.

 

Oh yeah, walked into house with a mixture of dirt and blood caked face andmade my 3 year old son cry. He thought I was some type of zombie. He still is keeping his distance.

 

Thanks, Tom. That is very kind. I am actually going to San Diego this weekend for a huge family reunion of a bunch of family members I have never met. Tbis should make a good impression.

 

CBone are you local to P12 or just happen to know the trails?

 

Unfortunately I bought the frame used. I researched the Ibis site and they do have a crash replacement discount bit of for original owners. If this carbom repair shop works that will be great, as I love my bike.
