My new bike is in the shop for a few weeks due to brain death, so I've been riding my old hardtail.
Feels like I'm riding a kid's bike in comparison.
I figger I could cheaply upgrade the bar and stem at least.
My bars are ~630 mm and sweep back some. Stem looks like 100mm 1 1/8 steerer with a good amount of rise.
I'm thinking a straighter and wider bar would extend my reach a bit, which I could use on this bike.

Anyone got anything in the old parts box they want to part with?

I'm also thinking of adding a dropper. My current post is 30.8 mm. Would a 30.9 dropper work, or would I need to do something like get a 27.2 and a shim?

I imagine I could get an external post for not too much coin.

    Any tips? Ideas? Problems?

Your frame should be a 30.9

30.8 is a very odd size, especially for Giant.

I have a 685mm/31.8 Easton EC50 aluminum bar you can have. It’s still relatively narrow but not stupid narrow like 630mm

I’m in La Verne but plan to be in Mission Viejo on Saturday. If you can swing a ride, let’s meet at Cox Sports Park around 2:30. I’ll confirm the schedule closer to Saturday.

My intel indicates Waterworks is currently featuring some of the biggest and nicest doubles ever displayed. Who knows how long before OC parks does a gnar check.

Go get it, DDD... Chase the air and the KOM! Anything else is mediocrity. :p Same guy with the Luge and Motorway KOMs also has Waterworks.

And ride Machete for me... I miss that fun little trail. And the two trails next to Waterworks... :(

@Rumpled - I have aluminum Niner bars that are pretty flat and either 780 or 800. I live in Canada now, though.

I’ll give it a shot. And at least I’ll give it a shot. What I mean is that if I’m gonna bother to time my ride, I might as well pedal through the flats and lay off the brakes. Why Strava otherwise? If ya wanna drop your bars off to me in La Verne before Saturday, I can take them to @Rumpled.

Calorie expenditure. I want to know how many tacos I can eat every time. Burgers, too. I'm naturally fluffy, but I don't want to get too fluffy.

Hey! Google says that La Verne is also in Canada!

Thanks for the offers guys. I only need one bar, so either one sounds good to me.
Still plan on DDD meeting place.
You hit the jumps, I'll just roll along.

@Rumpled , If you plan to swap the bar tomorrow in the field, meet me here: https://goo.gl/maps/2q5oWBsRSuxj8xc26 at 2PM. There will be a few heads who will be departing from the Rancho Santa Margarita Water District facility that we will be rendezvousing with out there. Also, let me know if you need me to bring a torque wrench.

How tall are you? Would you be interested in demoing a 6.3" enduro 26er bike?

I don't plan on swapping bars tomorrow. I'll need a new stem as well.
I'm 5'9" but don't really have an interest in demoing an enduro bike. I'm pretty much a pure XC rider.
I'll be planning on meeting you at 2.
I'm easy to find, my Dodge Dakota with a shell has my user name for a license plate and a really old bike on the rack.

I’ll look for a stem before I leave. See you at 2.

Thanks for @DangerDirtyD bringing me a bar and going for a ride.
I figured maybe a 8-10 mile ride or so.
Brought 1 bottle and no pack.
His friend Chris showed up and we took off. Around the Arroyo a bit and met another friend, Doug.
On to Waterworks and then around again to Spitfire.
Then up to O'Neill park - a long ways up the Arroyo.
@DangerDirtyD kept mentioning going to the Luge (in hindsight, he might have been serious!)
We turned around back down the Arroyo and hit Waterworks again.
Then, some more Arroyo and climbing out to our start.
22 miles. Not quite the 8-10 I had in mind.
Gave @DangerDirtyD a large Pliny the Elder in thanks for giving me the bar.
Said our goodbyes and when I got home I saw on Strava that @DangerDirtyD had gone out for ~12 more miles.
(Remind me not to ride with him again, ha)
