Would Snow Summit parking lot be a good meeting point? Im sure both of you have ridden Skyline trail before prob. be better to have you show us the way if that would work better. Just so many options to get to Skyline trail.

Summit parking lot works for me. I’ve always ridden it east to west, but I know a lot of people like it west to east.

    I’m flexible.

I’ll be coming from Apple Valley, so I’m out on the shuttle part. Great idea for those coming through the IE, tho.

Yes, we park at the SS parking lot for the start of the ride (the system rides best from East to West, IMO) but there is two ways we can do this. We can do the entire thing and then climb back through the forest on fire roads and other trails to cross above town back toward SS (I have never done this so I cannot guide us through it).

Or, we can have a vehicle parked near the other end (which is what I prefer). I can comfortably carry three bikes (or cram 4 bikes) and gear onto my truck and three passengers. If we leave it at the Pineknot trail head parking lot then we can start at SS (I would need a ride from one of you guys to get to SS) and do basically entire Skyline ride, then climb Plantation trail (mellow climb) back up to Skyline trail, ride it a ways East to Grand View Point and then drop down Pine Knot trail back to my truck. Or, if we are totally spent, we can just roll down 2N10 to Pineknot trail parking lot.

Having never been, I’m assuming a loop would be best? Then some sort of out n back. Then a point to point with some sort of drive involved? I’m easy, whatever is easiest

I'm not going but that's what we've always done. We park in the SS parking lot. Ride up 2N08 to Skyline. Ride Skyline west to Pine Knot, down Pine Knot and then ride the road back to SS.

I usually do the “loop” as described by snake charmer. There is a good amount of fire road climbing on the back end of it before dropping down 2n08 to town trail. I think it ends up around 22 miles and 2500’ of climbing.

Summit parking lot-> Moonridge->Fern->Skyline->2n17->2n08-> Towne Trail

Did this in January when I had some solo time... Great little loop!

Also did the little extra credit out to Grandview Point.

Ive never had to pay to park there.

Ive been there to eat, to ride the lift, and to do the Skyline loop. Its a huge parking lot. Never been charged. Never been approached.

You guys are doing it all wrong. You are skipping the Snow Summit trails. Here's what you do. Park wherever you like. Ride UP Skyline to Snow Summit. Don your pads and full face. Poach a run at Snow Summit. Buy a lift ticket at the bottom. Take 5 runs at SS. Eat at the top. Switch your helmet and pads. Finish on Skyline. Drink beer.

Here are two people doing it right.
