Got out for a quick ride at Santiago Oaks this morning. It's one of my favorite local places to ride as you can put together a few different loops to mix things up and the climbs are rewarded with fun down hills. Got on the trail at 6:30. 10.3 miles and 1,654 feet of climbing. Since I was solo, and my legs were a little tired from climbing Turnbull on the roadie yesterday, I figured I'd take it easy and take some pics along the way. It was actually kind of nice to just take a leisurely ride. The route was up Chutes, down Cactus, up Coachwhip, down and up Deer, Barham back to Chutes Ridgeline and then around the park to go up and down Puma Ridge.

Here's where I will be heading shortly.

This is why I like dawn patrol rides, not another soul in sight.

Getting ready to ride up Chutes. It's a fun climb. It has a bit of elevation gain, but it's all hillside switchbacks, so it's not too brutal.

Here's Chutes Ridgeline. Will be hitting this on the way back down.

Now getting ready to head down Cactus. This trail is a blast. No pics on this trail since I was having too much fun to stop.

Made it to the top of Coachwhip. It's another hillside switchback climb, so it's not too bad. Saw my first other rider on this trail, but he was heading down.

Going to take Anaheim Hills for a short bit to get to Deer. This is a fun downhill, but Deer is a bit of a climb getting back up to Barham Ridge.

    Here's the start of Deer.

Made it back to Barham Ridge. Now it's all fun downhills on Barham Ridgeline to Chutes Ridgeline.

pp, even though we didn't ride together we rode almost the same route and even had the same burrito. I bet we seen each other out on the trail. Let's try for next Sunday.

Those of us that ride the local trails (like here) often take what we have for granted. Great report that shares how great we have it.

That sounds good, Sunday is usually my mtn biking day. Do you ever get out for mid week rides after work? I did swing by the parking lot on the way over to Puma to see if I could catch you guys, but you were already on the trail.

That's definitely the truth. So many great options less than 30 minutes from my house. Add the fact that we can ride year round and it's hard to beat.

I think I see my house!

This place sucks, don't ever ride here ;)

Posting a RR of my 1573rd lap of Oaks would be terrible reading, it's much better to have someone with some enthusiasm and the patience to take pictures provide the documentation. I think you described the trails well--- Hawk and the Weir Canyon loop will be there for next time.

    Thanks!

I'm almost always an AM rider. I do get out on the occasion however. So send me a PM when your going to get out and I will try to join up. Do you ever get out to Aliso Wood Canyon?

Where was the burrito purchased? Is that "CJ's" next to Albertson's? I saw a line in front of there last week and was bemused...I tried their coffee last millenium and it was woeful, maybe they're better now. They have a deal with the landlord that keeps competing coffee shops out. Fortunately Tru Bru opened next to the Fish House and their coffee and breakfast is excellent.

Sounds good, I'll shoot you a note when I am going to head out. I do ride Aliso, but not as much. I do like it there though. I'm, an AM rider as well, but I head in to the office too early during the week to get a run in most days.

Could be, I have no clue what the name of the place is but it is next to Albertsons. Coffee seems good to me, but to be honest, I'm not too picky. Normal gas station coffee works for me. It's pretty typical for a business to have an exclusive in their lease like that.
