Pretty sure the USFS doesn't want any cabins any more. Even though some of the owners are the best stewards of the area.
From the attempt to have them all in a flood zone using an inappropriate map to the policies of never letting them rebuild.
I'd be willing to wager that pretty soon they might stop renewing leases.

Thanks, Jim. I heard 3 acres was burned.

RC airport? Sounds like a different fire.

There is a small vegetation fire down near Irvine Lake. As of 5 minutes ago it looked to be about 1/2 acre in size. This fire appears to have a slow rate of growth.

Multiple units are responding including a helicopter. I'll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

    Thank you as always,

Yeah, next to Irvine Lake....behind the venue where they hold the OTH Races and other festivals, there is an area to fly RC airplanes.

Email from the Warriors Society - Forest Condition Update.

**IN THIS UPDATE: 1. FOREST CONDITION UPDATE 2. THE SAN JUAN TRAIL WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED.

    1. Forest Condition Update The Holy Jim and Trabuco Trails have been destroyed in the portions that run along the drainages and suffered damage in the portions above the drainages (the same with West Horse Thief. Trail rebuilding will occur once a soils engineer determines that the slopes are stable enough so they won’t erode and re-damage the trail - and this may take a few years depending on the severity of the rainy season and recovery of the vegetation. Some have asked why is the forest closed, it can’t be that unsafe - but it’s more than a matter of safety. There is no vegetation to stop idiots from making trails willy nilly or driving vehicles all over the place, the vegetation needs to recover to form a natural barrier. If all men were angels, we wouldn’t need rules - but unfortunately that is not mankind’s current state - and judging by our history, probably never will be. Although this fire cost millions of dollars, it needed to happen to correct the natural cycle (and no worries about having controlled burns now). We are glad we had no loss of life, everything else can be replaced. We are not happy about our events being postponed for up to 4 years, but it’s a small price to pay to get the forest healthy again. Our current trail work is focused on brushing the Chiquita Trail over this and next year, brushing the last half of the Silverado Trail this weekend, and addressing various other erosion issues on the remaining open trails as they occur since the rains began. We will also be working on then Joplin Trail in the Fall.

    2. The San Juan Trail will be temporarily closed The Forest Service is doing some work next week, in and around Blue Jay and the surrounding area, so San Juan Trail will be CLOSED east of the Chiquito junction from June 24 – July 1.

Our resident WS member mentioned that on last night's ride...

Anyone else feel like "visiting" Forest in jail?

Tell that to the cabin owners in Trabuco trying to get rebuild permits.

I guess the closure doesn't apply to everyone. For those unfamiliar with the area, he's talking about Trabuco Trail.

From a Strava entry a couple weeks ago:

    https://www.strava.com/activities/2378614548#60050315779

    Tinker Juarez
It was main divide I was camping at lake elsinore and started there up divide down the last down hill in VQ the far I went the more trouble I got in and had to hike the whole mountain was washed away no trails finally found some burn down houselater jeep road took it out to the road up Harding truck trail lucky it was Saturday because the whole main divide was getting a new face left

Edit: Looking at Strava, Tinker is the only entry for Trabuco Trail in 2019... I guess most people did get the memo. There are several entries for Holy Jim, though...

Tinker is the only entry for 2019 on Trabuco, but there are half a dozen for Holy Jim, and a full dozen for Pinos.
